The fruits of charity are joy, peace, and mercy; charity demands beneficence and fraternal correction; it is benevolence; it fosters reciprocity and remains disinterested and generous; it is friendship and communion:

Love is itself the fulfillment of all our works. There is the goal; that is why we run: we run toward it, and once we reach it, in it we shall find rest.*

In this Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time, the Catechism reflects on today's Gospel reading from Matthew 16:21-27.

The Lord grieves over the rich, because they find their consolation in the abundance of goods.* “Let the proud seek and love earthly kingdoms, but blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.” Abandonment to the providence of the Father in heaven frees us from anxiety about tomorrow. Trust in God is a preparation for the blessedness of the poor. They shall see God.

Twenty-first week in Ordinary Time:

The Catechism states the following about the Gospel Reading for today;

The Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the “rock” of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole flock. “The office of binding and loosing which was given to Peter was also assigned to the college of apostles united to its head.” This pastoral office of Peter and the other apostles belongs to the Church’s very foundation and is continued by the bishops under the primacy of the Pope.

Today Holy Mother Church observes the Memorial of Saint Pius X, Pope, faithful guardian of the Sacred Tradition.

Born near Venice, St. Pius X (1835-1914) was known for his service to all members of the Church as a priest, bishop, Patriarch of Venice, and Pope. He defended the purity of Catholic doctrine against modern and resurgent heresies and was instrumental in extending the practice of frequent reception of Holy Communion.

Today, this Twentieth Sunday of Ordinary Time the Catechism states the following:

Just as Jesus prays to the Father and gives thanks before receiving his gifts, so he teaches us filial boldness: “Whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you receive it, and you will.”* Such is the power of prayer and of faith that does not doubt: “all things are possible to him who believes.” Jesus is as saddened by the “lack of faith” of his own neighbors and the “little faith” of his own disciples as he is struck with admiration at the great faith of the Roman centurion and the Canaanite woman.

Today, Holy Mother Church celebrates the Solemnity of The Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary.

This feast has been celebrated in the Eastern Rites of the Church since the sixth century and in Rome since the seventh. In 1950 Venerable Pius XII solemnly defined the dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary: at the end of her earthly life, she was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory. This is part of the Deposit of Faith received from the Apostles.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states the following:

“Finally the Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all stain of original sin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things, so that she might be the more fully conformed to her Son, the Lord of lords and conqueror of sin and death.”* The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin is a singular participation in her Son’s Resurrection and an anticipation of the resurrection of other Christians:

In giving birth you kept your virginity; in your Dormition you did not leave the world, O Mother of God, but were joined to the source of Life. You conceived the living God and, by your prayers, will deliver our souls from death.*

“The sum of your word is truth; and every one of your righteous ordinances endures forever.”* “And now, O Lord God, you are God, and your words are true;”* this is why God’s promises always come true.* God is Truth itself, whose words cannot deceive. This is why one can abandon oneself in full trust to the truth and faithfulness of his word in all things. The beginning of sin and of man’s fall was due to a lie of the tempter who induced doubt of God’s word, kindness, and faithfulness.

Today, the Universal Church Celebrates the Feast of The Transfiguration of the Lord.

Celebration of the Transfiguration became widespread in the West in the eleventh century. It manifested the glory Christ possesses as God, foretold his Ascension into Heaven, and anticipated the glory of Heaven, where the faithful will know God.

Catechism of the Catholic Church states the following:

From the day Peter confessed that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, the Master “began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things … and be killed, and on the third day be raised.”* Peter scorns this prediction, nor do the others understand it any better than he.* In this context the mysterious episode of Jesus’ Transfiguration takes place on a high mountain,* before three witnesses chosen by himself: Peter, James, and John. Jesus’ face and clothes become dazzling with light, and Moses and Elijah appear, speaking “of his departure, which he was to accomplish at Jerusalem.”* A cloud covers him and a voice from heaven says: “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!”*
