“If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:26
I don't know about you, but at first glance, this passage makes me uncomfortable. It feels incredibly extreme. I imagine the feelings we have are the same ones the crowd felt when they heard Jesus say this for the very first time.
Why would Jesus speak like this? What is He getting at? Is He truly saying we must hate the people we are supposed to love, even when it seems to contradict His other teachings? And what does this kind of extreme devotion really mean for us?
This Sunday, we will be discussing this passage together. Join us as we dive into our journey of discovering who Jesus is and how knowing Him impacts our lives today!
