Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry has released a statement on the shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego.

“As the ELCA, we must speak plainly: violence rooted in hatred is sin. We condemn Islamophobia and acknowledge its rise in recent years. Our church affirms that “anti-Muslim hatred is antithetical to our Christian faith” (A Declaration of the ELCA to the Muslim Community), for we are called to love our neighbor in ways that cast out fear (1 John 4:18).”

With deep gratitude this day for all who served and sacrificed for our country (including the families of soldiers in blessed memory) and with prayer for that future day when war will be no more. 🙏🏽❤️💙🤍

On Memorial Day, Lutherans are shaped by a faith that remembers.

We remember lives given in service to others, families who carry both pride and loss, and the cost of peace and freedom. Grounded in a theology of vocation, we give thanks for those who served their neighbors with courage and sacrifice. Today, we pause in gratitude, prayer, and renewed commitment to care for one another and to work for a more peaceful world.
