What if the people who get on your nerves are also part of the place where God is teaching you how to love?

Church is a family, and family can get messy. People will disappoint us. Somebody may say the wrong thing, handle something poorly, or simply have some growing to do. But our commitment to the body of Christ was never built on everybody getting everything right. It is built on Jesus.

Maturity reminds us that when someone is struggling, our first response does not always have to be distance. Sometimes love moves closer. We stay kind. We keep encouraging. We keep pointing one another toward Christ because we remember how patient He has been with us.

Jesus gave Himself for His church, and that gives us a deeper reason to stay connected than whether everybody around us acts the way we think they should.

When church gets messy, what helps you keep your eyes on Jesus and stay committed to His body?

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians 4:2

What would change if we stopped measuring our faith by what happens in the building and started looking at what happens in our everyday lives?

Jesus calls us into a faith that reaches beyond a Sunday gathering. It shows up in how we forgive, how we serve, how we treat people who test our patience, how we handle what God has entrusted to us, and how we respond when life gets difficult. Worship becomes visible when surrender shapes the way we live.

Jesus gave His life for us, and our response is a life placed fully in His hands. So here is a question worth carrying into this week: What is your life building right now? 🙌

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” - Romans 12:1

Who checks on the person everyone else depends on? Some people have become so accustomed to being the one who prays, encourages, gives, and shows up that everyone around them assumes they will always be okay. Strength can make it easy for others to overlook the fact that the strong person has needs too.

Being dependable does not mean you never need someone to be dependable for you. There will be moments when the person who has spent so much time pouring into others needs someone willing to pour back into them. There will be days when the person who has prayed for everybody else needs to know that somebody is praying for them.

This is another reason why we need one another in the body of Christ. We should care enough to notice the people who are usually doing the caring, because even those who carry others can have moments when they need someone to help carry them.

Take a moment today to think about the strong people God has placed in your life, and do not assume that their strength means they do not need your support. Sometimes showing up for the person who always shows up for everyone else can mean more than you realize. 🙌

“Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
