This week in OHBC Kids, we continued our SAY WHAT?! series with another surprising statement from Jesus!

In Matthew 5:39, Jesus said, “If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.”

Wait…SAY WHAT?!

We talked about how our first reaction when someone is mean to us is often to get even. But Jesus teaches us a different way!

Using the story of Jesus' arrest in Luke 22:47–51, we saw how one of His disciples pulled out a sword and cut off a man's ear. Instead of fighting back, Jesus stopped him and healed the man!

Our kids learned that we don't have to respond to meanness with more meanness. We can choose kindness, and forgiveness instead. We also reminded them that if someone is hurting them, they should get help from a trusted adult.

Our BIG IDEA: When somebody does me wrong, I don't have to do wrong back!

This week in OHBC Kids, we continued our SAY WHAT?! series, looking at some of the surprising things Jesus said that make us stop and think!
Jesus said in Matthew 20:16, “So the last will be first, and the first last.”
Wait…SAY WHAT?!
We all like being first! First in line, first to win, first to get picked. But Jesus teaches us that God's kingdom works differently than the world around us.

Through the parable of the workers in the vineyard (Matthew 20:1–16), we learned that God's generosity isn't based on how we compare to others. The workers who showed up last received the same pay as those who worked all day, reminding us that God is generous and His grace isn't something we earn.

We challenged our kids to stop comparing themselves to others, celebrate when good things happen to someone else, and remember that being first doesn't make us more important to God.

Our BIG IDEA: It's not about being first. It's about following Jesus!

Here's a question to ask your kids this week:
“Why is it sometimes hard to be happy when someone else gets something good?”

And remind them that the greatest gift God gives us salvation through Jesus isn't something we can earn. It's a gift of grace!

Today in OHBC Kids we kicked off our new series SAY WHAT? Looking at some of the things Jesus said that make us stop and think, “Wait…SAY WHAT?!”

“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Matthew 5:44

We talked about how easy it is to treat people the way they treat us. If they're nice, we're nice. If they're mean…we want to send that meanness right back! But Jesus calls us to live differently. Using the story of Jesus and Zacchaeus, we saw how Jesus chose to show love to someone everyone else wanted nothing to do with and that encounter with Jesus changed Zacchaeus.

Our kids learned three simple ways to respond when someone doesn't treat us right:
Don't get even. Pray for them. Choose kindness.

Jesus wants me to love people—even when they don't treat me right.

This week we wrapped up our missions series with one more way every kid can be part of missions...PRAY!

We looked at Acts 12:1–17, when Peter was thrown into prison. The church couldn’t break him out or fight the guards but they could pray. And while they were praying, God was working!

We reminded our kids that they may never travel to some of the places where missionaries serve, but they can still make a difference by praying for them.
Over the last few weeks, we’ve challenged our kids with three simple ways they can be part of missions right now:

GO...Tell others about Jesus wherever God puts you.
GIVE...Use what God has given you to help others hear the Gospel.
PRAY...Pray for missionaries and people around the world who need Jesus.

Parents, challenge your kids this week to pick one missionary or one country and pray for them each day.

Everyone can have a role in missions.

OHBC Kids
Missions Week 2: GIVE!

Today we continued our missions series with one simple word: GIVE!

We looked at the story of the widow’s offering in Mark 12:41–44. While others gave large amounts, this widow gave just two small coins. It didn’t look like much, but Jesus saw something bigger He saw her heart.

We talked about how our kids can be part of missions right now. They may not be able to travel across the world, but they can GIVE to help missionaries GO and tell others about Jesus.

It’s not about how much we give.
It’s about being willing to give God what we have.

Our challenge this week: Talk with your child about something they could do or give to be part of missions.

We GIVE...Missionaries GO...People hear about JESUS!

OHBC Kids | GO!

Today we kicked off our missions emphasis by asking a simple question: “Where are you going?”

The kids looked at pictures of different items and tried to figure out the destination. But when we got to a pair of shoes and a Bible, the answer was different:
ANYWHERE!

In Matthew 28:19–20, Jesus tells His followers to GO and make disciples. We talked about how missions isn’t just for adults who get on airplanes and travel to another country. Our kids can live on mission right now—at school, at practice, in their neighborhood, and with their friends.

We also looked at Philip in Acts 8 and saw that when God told him to go, Philip went and God gave him an opportunity to tell someone about Jesus.

Our challenge this week is simple: Think of ONE person God has already put in your life who needs to know about Jesus.

Who can be a missionary? ME!
Where? Wherever God puts me!
What did Jesus say? GO!

08/30/2026

Today in OHBC Kids we wrapped up our “Under Construction” series with a lesson called “Work in Progress.”

We looked at pictures of unfinished buildings and projects and talked about an important truth: unfinished doesn’t mean useless—it means someone is still working!
Using Philippians 1:6 and the life of Peter, we saw how Peter had some great moments and some pretty rough ones too! He stepped out in faith, made mistakes, denied Jesus, was restored, and eventually became a bold leader in the early church. Jesus never gave up on Peter.

We reminded the kids that they aren’t finished either. God is still teaching, changing, and growing them to become more like Jesus.

🚧Our big takeaway:
“God isn’t finished with me yet!”

A great question to ask your child this week: What is one area where God is still helping you grow?

We’re thankful God doesn’t abandon the project halfway through—He finishes what He starts!

Today in OHBC Kids we continued our “Under Construction” series with Week 3: “Make the Repairs.”

Using a piece of drywall with a hole in it, we talked about the difference between covering up a problem and actually dealing with it. We connected that to the story of King David in 2 Samuel 12. David tried to cover up his sin, but eventually he stopped making excuses and admitted, “I have sinned against the Lord.”

From 1 John 1:9, we learned that when we mess up, God doesn’t want us to hide it, blame someone else, or make excuses. He wants us to confess it and receive His forgiveness.

Our big takeaway: “Don’t cover your sin. Confess it.”

We’re thankful God isn’t finished with any of us yet He’s still working, repairing, and making us more like Jesus!

Today in OHBC Kids we continued our “Under Construction” series with a lesson called “Follow the Blueprint.”

We brought in the actual blueprints for the building we were sitting in and talked about how the builders needed a plan to know what to build and how to build it. In 2 Timothy 3:16–17, we learned that God has given us a blueprint for our lives too—His Word!

The Bible teaches us, corrects us, and trains us to become more like Jesus. But just having a blueprint isn’t enough a good builder has to follow it!

Our big takeaway:
God’s Word shows us how to build our lives.

A great question to ask your child this week: “What is one thing God’s Word teaches us to do?”

We’re thankful for every opportunity we have to help your kids build their lives on Jesus and learn to follow His Word!
