Today in OHBC Kids we wrapped up our “Under Construction” series with a lesson called “Work in Progress.”

We looked at pictures of unfinished buildings and projects and talked about an important truth: unfinished doesn’t mean useless—it means someone is still working!
Using Philippians 1:6 and the life of Peter, we saw how Peter had some great moments and some pretty rough ones too! He stepped out in faith, made mistakes, denied Jesus, was restored, and eventually became a bold leader in the early church. Jesus never gave up on Peter.

We reminded the kids that they aren’t finished either. God is still teaching, changing, and growing them to become more like Jesus.

🚧Our big takeaway:
“God isn’t finished with me yet!”

A great question to ask your child this week: What is one area where God is still helping you grow?

We’re thankful God doesn’t abandon the project halfway through—He finishes what He starts!

Today in OHBC Kids we continued our “Under Construction” series with Week 3: “Make the Repairs.”

Using a piece of drywall with a hole in it, we talked about the difference between covering up a problem and actually dealing with it. We connected that to the story of King David in 2 Samuel 12. David tried to cover up his sin, but eventually he stopped making excuses and admitted, “I have sinned against the Lord.”

From 1 John 1:9, we learned that when we mess up, God doesn’t want us to hide it, blame someone else, or make excuses. He wants us to confess it and receive His forgiveness.

Our big takeaway: “Don’t cover your sin. Confess it.”

We’re thankful God isn’t finished with any of us yet He’s still working, repairing, and making us more like Jesus!

Today in OHBC Kids we continued our “Under Construction” series with a lesson called “Follow the Blueprint.”

We brought in the actual blueprints for the building we were sitting in and talked about how the builders needed a plan to know what to build and how to build it. In 2 Timothy 3:16–17, we learned that God has given us a blueprint for our lives too—His Word!

The Bible teaches us, corrects us, and trains us to become more like Jesus. But just having a blueprint isn’t enough a good builder has to follow it!

Our big takeaway:
God’s Word shows us how to build our lives.

A great question to ask your child this week: “What is one thing God’s Word teaches us to do?”

We’re thankful for every opportunity we have to help your kids build their lives on Jesus and learn to follow His Word!

Today we kicked off a brand-new series in OHBC Kids called Under Construction!

This week we learned from Matthew 7:24–27 that every strong building starts with a strong foundation. Using a LEGO Empire State Building, we talked about how even the tallest buildings depend on what's underneath them. In the same way, our lives need a solid foundation and that foundation is Jesus.

Jesus said that when we hear His Word and put it into practice, we're like the wise builder who built his house on the rock. Storms will come, but a life built on Jesus will stand firm.

Our big takeaway: "Build your life on Jesus."

Here are a few great questions to ask your child this week:
• What was the most important part of the LEGO building?
• What does it mean to build your life on Jesus?
• What is one way you can strengthen your foundation this week?

Today in OHBC Kids we continued our "Doing It Wrong" series by teaching from James 5:13–18 and learning that prayer should be our first response, not our last resort.

Using walkie-talkies, we talked about how we can communicate with someone we can't see. In the same way, prayer allows us to talk with God anytime, anywhere. James reminds us that whether we're happy, hurting, worried, or thankful, our first step should always be to pray.

We challenged the kids to make prayer a daily habit, not just something they do when life gets hard, but something they do because they have a relationship with God.

Our big takeaway:
"Pray first!"

A few great questions to ask your child this week:
• What did the walkie-talkies teach us about prayer?
• Why should prayer be our first response?
• What's one thing we can pray about together as a family today?

Today in OHBC Kids we continued our "Doing It Wrong" series by teaching from James 5:7–11 and learning that God's timing is always worth the wait.

Using popcorn as our object lesson, we talked about how nobody enjoys waiting. Whether it's for a birthday, Christmas, vacation, or even popcorn to finish popping, we all want things to happen now! But James reminds us that just like a farmer patiently waits for a harvest, we can trust God even when His answers don't come as quickly as we'd like.

We challenged the kids to remember that waiting doesn't mean God isn't working. Sometimes He's growing our faith while we wait.

Our big takeaway:
"Waiting isn't wasting when you're trusting God."

A few great questions to ask your child this week:
• Why did James use a farmer as an example?
• What are you waiting on right now?
• How can you trust God while you wait?

Today in OHBC Kids we continued our "Doing It Wrong" series by teaching from James 4:13–17 and learning that we shouldn't put off doing what God tells us to do.

To kick off our lesson, we used an alarm clock to remind us that when the alarm goes off, we have a choice we can get up or keep hitting the snooze button. Sometimes we do the same thing with God. He tells us to obey, forgive, help someone, or pray, and instead we say, "Maybe later."

James reminds us that when we know the right thing to do and choose not to do it, we're missing God's best for us.

We challenged the kids to stop hitting the "snooze button" on obedience and to respond to God right away.

Our big takeaway:
"Don't hit snooze on obedience!"

A few great questions to ask your child this week:
• What does James say about knowing the right thing to do?
• What was the alarm clock meant to teach us?
• What's one thing God wants you to do this week that you shouldn't put off?

Today in OHBC Kids we continued our "Doing It Wrong" series by looking at James 4:1–10 and learning that following Jesus means putting Him first instead of always putting ourselves first.

Using a game of tug-of-war, we discovered that most arguments happen because everyone wants their own way. James reminds us that the real battle starts in our hearts, not with the other person.

We challenged the kids to follow Jesus' example by choosing humility, serving others, and putting someone else first this week.

Our big takeaway:
"Following Jesus means putting Him first, not yourself."

Ask your child:
- What causes most arguments?
- How did Jesus put others first?
- Who can you put first this week?

Today in OHBC Kids we continued our "Doing It Wrong" series by teaching from James 3:1–12 and learning that our words have power!

James compares our tongue to a tiny spark that can start a huge forest fire. Even though our tongue is small, the words we say can make a big impact for good or for bad. We used the illustration of a small flame to show how something that seems so little can quickly grow into something much bigger.

We talked about how our words can encourage, comfort, and point people to Jesus, or they can hurt feelings, spread rumors, and damage relationships. As followers of Christ, God wants us to use our words to build others up.

Some practical ways we talked about using our words this week:
• Thank your parents without being reminded. (don't hold your breath)
• Encourage a friend who may be having a tough day.
• Choose kind words when talking to brothers and sisters...even if they deserve it.
• Refuse to join in when others are being mean.
• Tell someone that Jesus loves them.

Our big takeaway:
"Your words have the power to build up or burn down. Choose words that honor God!"

A few great questions to ask your child this week:
• What did James compare our tongue to?
• How can your words encourage someone this week?
• Why do you think God cares so much about the things we say?
