We had a great field trip with some of the kids from Burnside Elementary School mentor program. Thanks to the generosity of a couple who live near Heavens Door Chapel, we were able to fish in a private pond. Such a blessing. Almost all the kids caught something, including a turtle.

Tuesday this week was a great ending of the school year for Boys to Men / Girls to Women at Burnside Elementary School. Joy mixed with tears. We have several students that will move on to 6th grade and some we will see next year. Each student received a milk jug greenhouse with a tomato and pepper plant. They also finished a tool box for each student. They recieved a beginner set of tools that included a hammer, level, speed square, screw driver combo, channel lock pliers, tape measure, goggles, and a pocket knife. We also gave some special gifts to Mrs. Mounce, our favorite principal.

Thank you to these three guys for coming from Parkway Baptist Church this week to work at Heaven’s Door Chapel. They did plumbing, shower stall installation and drywall finishing. It was also a blessing to stay in a home here in the resort and have a great dinner brought in Friday night. God is good, Amen.

Tuesday was another great day a Burnside Elementary School. We planted milk jug greenhouses first, then the kids made tool boxes. On a prior day the volunteers got together and made tool box kits for the kids to put together. On Tuesday we fulfilled one desire of our principal, Mrs. April Mounce; to teach the kids to use a hammer. They nailed together these tool boxes. They will each receive a beginner set of tools to fill the box. This sesson included instruction on how to use a tape measure and a hammer.

Race day at Burnside Elementary School, Boys to Men / Girls to Women. The kids have been working on Pinewood Derby cars and today was race day. They learned about investment in lives today. Many people invested in this day, from purchasing the kits to allowing us to use this great track. We had special guests John and Lisa Kallevig. John was our race captain. Thank you to all those investors in lives that made this day happen. God is amazing.

Yesterday was a great day a Burnside Elementary School. Boys to Men / Girls to Women Mentor program. We planted marigolds for Mother’s Day and finished working on Pinewood Derby cars. The character value was Generosity. They learned about a local food assistance program, Project 58:10, based on Isaiah 58:10 that is done through volunteers in 4 churches. One of our volunteers is a board member for Project 58:10.
The large circle in the gym where we are holding hands is our finishing prayer circle. We are blessed, God is good, glory to God

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 24 hour prayer time. Here are a couple of pictures of some folks who came by the chapel. We even had someone here from Tennessee. Also thank you to those fine ladies that made the chapel feel at home with decorations and food.

24 hour prayer update:
January 23rd is a day of 24 hour prayer at Heavens Door Chapel. We are working together with more than 30 local churches in our area to unify in prayer during the month of January. This picture is a sunrise. This reminds me of a new beginning. Prayer is about seeking God for who He is more than what He can do for us. It’s also about realigning our priorities to His. God changes communities one heart at a time. When I came here I had a meeting with a local man about the mission and vision of Heavens Door Chapel. His desire was a business relationship, mine was different. I said “We are here to change hearts” he said “good luck with that” 6 years later, I see God changing hearts through us here. We are privileged to be included by God to do the work of His kingdom. For those of you that participate in this day, remember that we are here to change hearts. This is the second post about this. If you wish to participate in this January 23rd, 24 hour prayer event, I am asking that you respond with a time that you will pray on that day. Some have already responded to my first post. I’m not looking for a full day of 1 hour time slots, rather I am asking that you pray at a time The Spirit gives you. Many of you will pray from where you are. I will be opening the chapel for prayer on that day for those who desire to come there and pray. It will be open for 12 hours, 8AM to 8PM. We will be praying for God to move in our community, church and beyond. Changed hearts.
