It was a chilly morning here at Parkers Mill Road Baptist Church (PMRBC), but that didn't stop Maverick and me from completing a vital upgrade to our campus network infrastructure.

We tackled the CBI - PMRBC link. This connection is crucial because it ensures CBI has fast, reliable access to our shared resources.

We upgraded the wireless bridge that handles this connection. Why a wireless bridge? It's the most reliable and cost-effective way to get high-speed access across the property without the huge expense of running fiber optic cable. A strong, reliable network is essential for supporting our mission and daily operations!

If your electronic bells are silent, the issue is often a failed, proprietary controller that companies charge a fortune to replace.

The Simple Fix: You can bypass the expensive system. Since the speakers are usually just PA horns on an amplifier, a basic setup with a new amp and a computer/software will get your bells ringing again for under $600 (in most cases).

I'm releasing a full video tutorial in the next few weeks that walks through this step-by-step, showing you how to use readily available equipment (often found on Amazon).

I did some work for a church one time that already had drops installed, however they’re not installed correctly. The blue sheath on the wire shouldn’t be that far back, and the pairs (smaller wires) shouldn’t be that long. The blue sheath should be flush with the keystone.

If you’re doing construction be careful who you hire to do your wiring. Be sure to set a spec for wire type and labeling. Demand a successful test of each wire upon completion.

I went ahead and deployed the new CDN for the morning service. I like repurposing old hardware (especially when it saves money).

This box is running Debian (free Linux operating system), Nginx (to serve up the RTMP feeds), and Stunnel4 to do the SSL/TLS connection to Facebook. The hardware is an old i5 HP Desktop that we had laying around.

I am really happy with this setup. We had been paying for a CDN and it was fine for a while, but we started having trouble. The streams would drop frames (usually in the evening) and during holiday services (Christmas, Easter, etc..) we were lucky to be able to use it.

This coming Sunday evening I’ll be testing out a RTMP server that I built out of an old junk desktop we had laying around.

If you’re using OBS to stream you need a CDN to push the stream more than one place. That’s where RTMP services come into play.

With your own RTMP service on site you can push to anywhere with a single click of a button.

Pretty excited to see what happens. Probably have to do some tweaking on the settings. The price is right $0.00 for the whole setup. Can’t beat free!

We just finished up upgrading some audio equipment at Piney Grove Baptist Church 1.

They purchased a new wireless receiver kit that was really cool. The kit included the receiver, 2 handheld mics, a body pack/lapel mic, and wireless pulpit mic. I personally had never seen the wireless pulpit mic and thought it was really cool.

I had a lot of help from my son who would talk/sing into the mic as I adjusted the settings. We have it about right but I will return to do some more fine tuning during a Sunday evening or Wednesday when Brother Doug is behind the mic.

It was a fun project and I enjoyed being able to help out.

We were able to get the new camera and audio configured. This camera is on the more "inexpensive" side of things, but it does a great job.
We would be happy to help your church find a setup that will fit your needs and budget. Working with us is a bit different - we are there to engineer the solution, we will do the training, and we will be available for support after we complete the project.
The best part about it there's no cost for the design, setup, training, or support. The only cost to the church will be the equipment purchase.
