Matthew 28:1-15 invites us into the earth-shattering reality of resurrection morning. We discover that God's kingdom operates on completely different principles than worldly power. The Roman guards, representing the mightiest empire of their time, fell like dead men before a single angel. Meanwhile, women who weren't even allowed to testify in court became the first witnesses of history's greatest event. This isn't just ancient history - it's a pattern that continues today. We often give ourselves to things we think will last - power, status, control - yet they all fade into history books. The upside down kingdom reveals that those who come seeking with even the smallest seed of faith, like the women simply wanting to honor Jesus' body, encounter the risen Lord. The invitation is clear: we don't need the right credentials or perfect understanding. We just need to show up, seeking Him with whatever faith we have. When we do, our eyes are opened to see that the resurrection isn't a cute memory we commemorate - it's the living reality we encounter. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us today, rewiring and recalibrating us as His people.

This powerful exploration of Matthew 19 challenges us to reconsider what it truly means to follow Jesus in the most intimate areas of our lives. We journey with Jesus toward Jerusalem, hearing his radical call to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow him—not as abstract theology, but as concrete practice in marriage, singleness, and our relationship with wealth. The passage confronts us with Jesus's countercultural vision of the kingdom of heaven, where the last become first and children exemplify the kind of humility required for entrance. We discover that Jesus elevates both marriage and celibacy as high callings, rejecting the manipulative systems of his day that allowed men to discard women for status and gain. Instead, he calls us to mutual self-giving love—whether in marriage where two become one flesh, or in celibate devotion to the kingdom. The rich young ruler's tragic departure reminds us that holding tightly to our possessions, our pride, and our selfishness keeps us from the abundant life Christ offers. As we come to the communion table, we're invited to leave behind what we've been clinging to and receive the nourishment of Christ's self-sacrifice, which then propels us to live sacrificially in every relationship and calling.

In Matthew 18, how does a process of confrontation about sin and the parable of the lost sheep go together?

Friends! Our livestreaming software is having a bad hair day OR perhaps it forgot to reset its clock for Daylight Savings. Either way, we cannot livestream this morning. We will be recording the service and it will be posted in the afternoon once the issue is resolved.

Jesus is the new and better Jonah. In Matthew 16, Jesus will only give the religious leaders the sign of Jonah. Are the stories of Jesus and Jonah connected? (TL;DR - yes.)
