And that's a wrap! VBS 2026 ended last night on a high note, with the children's families attending the grand finale performance. Earlier, the kids enjoyed pizza for dinner (donated by Domino's--thank you!) then rotated through the night with the usual activities of music, Bible stories, crafts and recreation. The Bible story was about Peter and John at the temple, healing the man who couldn't walk and sending him on his way in Jesus' name. The man had been hoping he would be healed, and the "Lift Lesson" for Day #5 was I CAN HOPE! The evening concluded with ice cream sundaes (thank you Penn-Gold!) amid a lot of smiling faces. It was a great week, with the children hearing the Word of God every night while having a ton of fun with their friends. On behalf of Center and Highland Presbyterian Churches and SR Methodist Church, thank you to the local families who sent their children to VBS, and kudos to all the volunteer staff who dedicated their week to this annual endeavor. Don't ever forget the Mountain Motto: "I can do all things through him who strengthens me!" (Philippians 4:13)♥

Day #4, the penultimate night of VBS for 2026, has wrapped up, and what a fun evening it was! We have about 40 kids involved this year and it's been a blast. Today's lesson was about Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. He asked his father God if it was really necessary for him (Jesus) to go to the cross, and if it was necessary (which of course it was), then he asked God to be with him throughout the ordeal. Our "Lift Lesson" was I CAN PRAY! Prayer can be done with hands folded or lifted up, with eyes open or shut, with heads bowed or raised. Prayers can be spoken or thought, can be said alone or with others around. We can pray in gratitude, or when we are scared or need help, or when we are in awe of God's splendor. Like Jesus praying to God in the Garden, we can pray and God hears us and answers us in His time, giving us the strength we need to do all things (our Mountain Motto, Philippians 4:13), even the hard things! Wednesday we celebrated "Christmas in July" and it was so cool to see all the kids and adult helpers dressed in holiday garb! Thursday is our final night of VBS this year. We'll have pizza for dinner (donated by Domino's) and all parents are invited to our grand finale at 7:45 PM at Center Church, after which we'll all be treated to ice cream donated by Penn-Gold in Harrisville. What a week it's been so far--and we're looking forward to finishing STRONG!

Do you remember the Bible story about all the important people at the temple who put big amounts of money into the offering plate but what they gave was actually only a tiny percentage of what they had? Then up came the widow who put TWO COINS into the plate--but those two coins were ALL SHE HAD? Jesus acknowledged her, and the Bible lesson for the VBS children on Day #3 was about that widow's offering. We learned this "Lift" Lesson (something that lifts you up in life and strengthens you): "I can give my all!" The friendly competition between the polar bears and the penguins continues this week, as children earn "points" by doing things like memorizing our Mountain Motto (Philippians 4:13) or bringing a friend to Vacation Bible School. Collections are being made for the local food pantry and there is an offering plate for kids to donate toward a local ministry too if they are able. It's a TON OF FUN and we are spreading the Gospel within our community! Join us Wed. night for dinner at 5:15 then an evening of activities for children aged 4 through rising 6th grade.

Wow! Day #2 of VBS is in the books! The children learned the Bible story about Esther and how she showed courage. Monday night's unique lesson for the kids was "I can be brave!" Each session is reinforcing the "Mountain Motto" of Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through him who strengthens me" (NRSV). If you couldn't make it Sunday or Monday, come on over to Center Presbyterian Church at 5:15 on Tuesday and join the fun! Children aged 4 through rising 6th grade are welcome to attend our community's free Vacation Bible School.

Day #1 of VBS is history! After a good hot meal, the children enjoyed all the fun winter-themed decorations (igloos, snowmen, sleds etc.) placed around Center Church showcasing the "Snowball Mountain Challenge." They learned the Bible story of Joseph and his gift of the ability to interpret dreams. The message to the kids was "I can share my gifts!" All week the Bible verse that we are striving to have the children learn and absorb (the "Mountain Motto") is Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through him who strengthens me!" If your child/ren didn't make it to Day #1, send them over to Center Church at 5:15 PM on Monday for Day #2 to see what all the excitement is about! All kids ages 4 through rising 6th grade are welcome to attend Slippery Rock Community's free Vacation Bible School. Join us!
