Happy Labor Day to the Backbone of Our Society!
Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us
and prosper for us the work of our hands—
O prosper the work of our hands!
Psalm 90:17 (NRSVue)
Scripture reminds us that work is not merely a means of survival; it is a form of worship. When we labor with integrity, excellence, and love for our neighbor, we participate in God's ongoing creative work in the world. From the sweat of the harvest to the patience of artisans to the dedication of laborers and the directives of corporate heads — all of it is sacred.
May you rest well this Labor Day, and may the favor of the Lord be upon all you set your hands to do.

WCC News: Season of Creation 2026 opens with living water and a new feast
Rivers that carry plastic to the sea. Wells turning salt as the ocean rises. Taps that run dry where children walk far for water. These were prayed for on 1 September, at the service opening the 2026 Season of Creation under the theme "Living Water" from Ezekiel 47. "We are surrounded by water," said Rev. James Bhagwan, general secretary of the Pacific Conference of Churches, "but something within humanity has become dry."

WCC news: WCC leaves COP17 in Ulaanbaatar with the same land question
For 11 days in Ulaanbaatar, the World Council of Churches (WCC) made one argument in five different events: degraded land will not be restored without the communities who already hold it. It closed on 25 August, with churches in front of investors, then farmers.

🙏🏾 Creator God,
Help us to be your people, working for a world where all workers are valued. A world where those who clean houses are also able to buy houses to live in. A world where those who grow food can also afford to eat their fill. And one where those who serve and care for others – in stores, schools, hotels, restaurants, nursing homes, and many other places –are, themselves, also served and cared for. A world where all workers everywhere share in the abundance that you have given us.
-Rev. Seth Wispelwey
Minister for The UCC Economic Justice Movement
