As We Gather
While we rejoice in God’s gracious forgiveness and blessing for ourselves, as people chosen by God, we are also given the responsibility to be faithful proclaimers of God’s faithful Word of forgiveness to others, including those who sin against us or reject our love. To speak of our responsibilities may remind us that the love we owe one another can appear at times to be a chore, requiring effort on our part. The prophet Ezekiel was called by God and given the responsibility of being a “watchman,” someone who delivers God’s word of warning and deliverance regarding sin. At times, it is a difficult chore to speak God’s Word to those who may ignore us or even reject us. Yet God, who called and appointed Ezekiel, also calls you by your Baptism and enlightens and strengthens you by His Spirit even in the face of rejection. Through all our days, we keep the eye of our faith on God’s promised deliverance and pray, “Come, Lord Jesus.”
