Hillcrest's Discipleship Team has chosen "A Long Obedience in the Same Direction" by Eugene Peterson as our book of the month for September.

We live in a society that looks for the "quick fix". The Christian life pushes back against this desire for instant gratification. Fulfillment in life is found through perseverance, God is a God of the long journey. Eugene Peterson in this Christian classic walks through the Songs of Ascents (Psalms 120-134) to help us "learn to grow in worship, service, joy, work, happiness, community, and blessing". These Songs were the Psalms sung by pilgrims on their way to worship in Jerusalem.

This Sunday, September 6th, something fun is happening as our kids are "popping up"! It's our "Pop Up" Sunday, the day we celebrate our kids moving up to their new grade. We will also be serving popcorn in the front foyer for everyone - not just kids.

Over 50 Hillcresters attended our annual picnic on Sunday! It was a hot day, but everyone enjoyed some time in the sun, watching and playing bean bags, or in the shade, eating and chatting. Congratulations to Eric and Kait Broesder for defending their title by winning the bean bag tournament for the second year in a row!
