St. Jakobi Lutheran Church

St. Jakobi Lutheran Church St. Jakobi is a member of the LCMS and invites you to come worship Christ with us on Saturday night at 6:30pm and Sunday morning at 9:00am.

We believe that God has revealed himself to us in the Holy Bible. The Old and New Testaments are the inspired and inerrant Word of God and thus the source of our life and teaching. We believe that the God revealed in the Bible is the Triune God: God the Father created all that is seen and unseen and remains active in his creation even to this day. God the Son is both true God and true man and was

born of the Virgin Mary. Jesus suffered and died on the cross and rose from the dead. He did this to save us from our sinfulness, which we inherited from Adam and Eve at the moment of our conception. God the Holy Spirit creates and sustains faith in our hearts through the Means of Grace, which are Scripture, Baptism, and Holy Communion. Baptism works forgiveness
of sins and gives eternal salvation. The Lord's Supper is the true Body and Blood of Jesus Christ given to Christians to eat and drink for the forgiveness of sins.

Jesus says to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24) As Lutherans, we believe that we live under the cross. The crosses that we bear are not ones that we seek out, but rather ones that are given to us in the normal course of our various vocations. That cross may be illness, pain, a frustrating job, troubles with kids, anxiety, uncertainty, grief, or a myriad of other things. The popular saying, “God won’t give you more than you can handle” is wrong. God gives you more than you can handle so that you would turn to Him and recognize that He gives you the strength to endure and bear your cross. Jesus bore the cross of all humanity when he conquered death upon his cross on Calvary. The cover depicts Simon of Cyrene helping Jesus carry his cross. (Luke 23:26)
