Nyungne Retreat: A Path of Radical Compassion
May 23 – 25, 2026 | Poolesville, Maryland

With the blessing of Spiritual Director Jetsunma Ahkön Lhamo, we invite you to join retreat master Khenpo Tenzin Yeshi for Nyungne—one of the most powerful purification practices in Vajrayana Buddhism.

Revealed by the siddha Bhikshuni Phalmo, this retreat is a profound physical and spiritual undertaking. Through prostrations, silence, and a 35-hour dry fast, we center ourselves in the compassion of Chenrezig to pacify the suffering of all beings.

What to Expect:

The Discipline: Chanting, prostrations, and the Eight Vows.

The Fast: A complete fast from food and water begins Saturday at midnight.

Expert Guidance: Khenpo Tenzin Yeshi will provide traditional instruction on maintaining your vows at home.

Note: This retreat is physically demanding and held in person only. Due to the size of the KPC Prayer Room, registration is limited to 27 practitioners.

Registration: $160 | Sponsorship: $225

We look forward to practicing with you.

"My advice is don't plan based on finding money and help. Move forward as if you knew that if it was supposed to happen, it will happen. Kyabje His Holiness Penor Rinpoche used to insist on it. He was absolutely adamant about that. You don't wait, you just go forward, because if it's a good thing, a right thing, then it will be done. By the power of our merit.

Do it, [Student], have faith. Just do it. Put out something that asks for money. Take responsibility, [Student]. You're not a teacher anymore. You ARE Buddhist Relief.

Get creative here.

The main thing is our Bodhicitta. Our motivation to do good. If we're always on that side, always without any deviation, all will go well.

But the moment we deviate from goodness and values, and beauty, we will never succeed.

If we ever deviate from the Great Bodhicitta we will never succeed. First and foremost it must be about doing good. Keep that in your heart."

Her Eminence Jetsunma Ahkön Lhamo Rinpoche recently gave this profound teaching in response to a student and has asked for it to be shared publicly so everyone may benefit. Names have been made anonymous for privacy.

Please join us in praying for peace. At our temple in Maryland, we will be doing powerful pujas to avert war - join in-person or online!

In response to the growing conflict in the Middle East, Her Eminence Jetsunma Ahkön Lhamo Rinpoche is urgently requesting a series of pujas. Whether you are Buddhist or not, please come to the temple to practice together in unity for the end of the war.

From Her Eminence: “You can help. You can DO something. Please try to come in person. We need your energy. Not just your words.

Please pray for the Middle East. All of it. Not one country or another, because everybody is guilty. Pray for the aggressors, which includes us, that they will stop. Pray for the victims, that they will stop their aggressive tendencies and heal. I am afraid it’s going to spread to the whole world.”

“Pray for the world. Pray for the whole world. People need to show up and practice together in unity for the end of war – at the temple! Let’s get serious. That’s what we’re really about. That’s who we are. Pray, pray for the world.
This is a big deal. This is how we save the world. We’ll do our part. Will you?”

We strongly encourage in-person attendance to practice together as a community. For those unable to join us in person, online participation is also available. Check the KPC Calendar for practice texts and instructions to join via Zoom.

"La Bella Luna is as serene and lovely as always. But tonight she dances over a world torn with war and sorrow. Hunger and evil of all kinds. Pray for the world. May the moon shine her light on us no matter what we do. "

What a joyful occasion it was to have the monks and nuns of KPC join monastics from other Buddhist traditions and other religious leaders of the DC metropolitan area to welcome the venerable monks of the Walk for Peace at National United Methodist Church yesterday.

We congratulate them for achieving their auspicious goal of walking from Texas to Washington, DC in 108 days, and we wish them a warm, safe journey home. We thank them for spreading the message of peace and compassion across the U.S.
