1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous.

Jesus said it this way, “Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29&30).

Righteousness is established by God. As long as Adam and Eve heeded God’s command, they enjoyed the utopia of Eden. When they broke God’s commandment, ‘all hell broke loose’. Sin entered the world, creating a harvest of sickness, murder, strife, etc., not to mention aging, grief in childbearing, hard labor to provide food, physical death, etc. The Israelites suffered many hardships, NOT because they obeyed the Lord, but because they DISOBEYED Him. Many animals were sacrificed because of the CONTINUED sin (breaking of God’s law) of His people. It is sin that produces bitter consequences; for both the believer and unbeliever. God would rather have our faithful obedience than to have to chastise us because of our willful rebellion (1 Samuel 15:22, Micah 5:7&8). Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

1 John 5:1&2 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth Him that begat loveth Him also that is begotten of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.

When we believe and receive Jesus as savior and Lord, we become “born again” (John 3:3-8) and children of God (Romans 8:14&15). You can’t truly love the Father (Him that begat) without loving Jesus (Him also that is begotten of Him - John 3:16, 14:6). Father, Son and believers are one big spiritual family, produced and sustained by the LOVE of the Father. The love of the Father becomes part of our spiritual DNA…we love our Father, our Eldest Brother, Jesus, and ALL of our spiritual siblings, according to HIS command (John 13:34&35) to love each other (Matthew 22:39, 1 John 4:7,11&12), which piggybacks, of course, on the number one command to love God (Matthew 22:37). The commandment to LOVE 1) our Father, 2) our Christ (savior), and our 3) spiritual siblings is primary and of the utmost and greatest priority. First things first. 1 John 4:19 We love Him, because He first loved us.

Before we were born, God loved us and exhibited His love by providing eternal life for “whosoever will”, through the sacrifice of His sinless Son. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. God’s love produced the grace through which all can be saved. He even gave every human the faith necessary to receive everlasting life. He supplies every need the believer has and promises to keep us company; never to leave or forsake us. He forgives our sin acts and restores us in fellowship, over and over again. What a matchless, wonderful, caring God, is OUR FATHER. Our response is…to LOVE HIM back, and allow His love to flow THROUGH US…to others. Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

1 John 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us.

God, the Father, is invisible. The human eye cannot discern His essence (Colossians 1:15, 1 Timothy 1:17), but the human heart CAN. Jesus said, in the sermon containing the beatitudes, that the pure in heart SHALL see (perceive, experience) God (Matthew 5:8, see also Hebrews 11:27 (Moses)). The truest essence of the Father is LOVE (1 John 4:8). Jesus spoke specifically to HIS DISCIPLES (true believers), demanding that they demonstrate His love for them by passing it on FIRST to EACH OTHER (believers) (John 13:34&35). Exercising and showing love for other believers, gives us, as children of God, insight and ability to love UNBELIEVERS, as God so loved the world (John 3:16). As we believers practice God’s agape’ love towards other believers, God perfects (MATURES) that love so that it expands and extends…to WHOSOEVER, ie., the world. We believers will be able to look past the fault in ourselves, in other believers and unbelievers…and meet…THE NEED. That’s LOVE. Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

1 John 4:7&8 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

ETH denotes continuation and indicates lifestyle; doETH righteousness denotes a lifestyle in line with God’s righteousness; committETH sin also denotes continuation and indicates a lifestyle of sin. Sin was introduced on earth through Satan, the devil. Before God created earth, Satan first sinned by trying to elevate himself above God, his creator. Since Eve was deceived and Adam willfully sinned, the need for someone to reverse the curse (sin is a curse that produces death) was evident immediately, and verbally promised soon after sin entered the world (Genesis 3:15), eventually manifesting with the birth, life, death and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus, the Christ. We believers are to imitate and immolate our Savior by striving to develop a lifestyle…of righteousness. By doing this, we too will aid in destroying the works of the devil. 1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

We believers have faith in our God and His Word. Our faith is increased by hearing and adhering to His Word. We receive the word of God into our souls through many venues; we read it and we also “hear” it through the mouths of other people and even through music and other forms of social media. But, my dear brothers and sisters, there are some who SAY they represent the Lord and speak His truth, who in fact, misrepresent the Lord and actually speak AGAINST the truth of His Word. We must remember that every human is “spirit”; and human spirits can be influenced by other spirits (demonic), and actually be oppressed or possessed by a devil (demon). At the time of John’s epistle, as well as today, there are many people claiming to be sent from God, who are preaching and teaching ERROR. These are false prophets, empowered by the enemy and motivated by greed. We true believers must TRY (test) every word given us…by lining it up against the Word of God. This means we must study the Word for ourselves, we must hide it in our hearts, memorize it and practice it. The Holy Spirit, who resides in every believer, will aid in comparison; He will bring the true Word to your remembrance, yet He will not REMIND you of Word that YOU haven’t physically received (heard, read). Get the WORD of God IN you. Devour it, consume it for yourselves. It is bread and water to your spirit. You cannot trust any and everything told you, even if they quote or misquote scripture. Remember, the devil tempted Jesus, using misplaced and misinterpreted scripture. Be like Jesus…too smart to fall into that trap. He knew the WORD. We must know it also. Jeremiah 4:22 For my people is foolish, they have not known Me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

In the above scripture, Jeremiah is speaking to the southern nation of Judah, who were very religious, but failing in RELATIONSHIP with God. They had allowed their “religion” to consist of custom, culture and traditions, mixed in with worship of idols. The word of God had become “rote” in their mouths, but NOT “real” or supreme in their lifestyles. Their “religion” was pretty much as religion is today; without any real power, and centered on “self” instead of the great “I AM”. Jeremiah called the ‘chosen people of God’, “SOTTISH”, foolish, silly, dull in understanding. Today, that word yet applies to many of us believers. Some of us believe “church” is a place to go once a week, wearing “church clothes”, singing “church” songs, giving an hour or two of our time, leaving a “tip” and saying “amen” on cue. We are buying into the sottish-ness of the world’s view of who we are. Yes, we are to assemble with other believers to praise and learn more of our Lord and to encourage and support each other, but each believer is an important part of ‘THE CHURCH’, which is the living spiritual body of Christ. We are connected to our “head” Jesus, who continually intercedes to the Father for us. We have the Holy Spirit residing IN us; there to teach us to walk as the Father directs; guiding us and bringing all things to our remembrance as needed. Our job, function and initiative is to honor our God by clinging to and obeying His word. We are not to be ‘wise’ in our own estimation, for that is pure foolishness, since true understanding and wisdom are gifts from God which we receive when we CONTINUE in applying His word to our lives. We are not to be participating and practicing foolishness; we are to be faithful in conforming our lives to be in alignment with the word of God. So believers…let us not be “sottish”, but let us heed the warning of Jeremiah and behave as true people of the one and only great “I AM”. Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

1 John 3:24 And he that keepeth His commandment dwelleth in Him, and He in him. And hereby we know that He abideth in us, by the Spirit which He hath given us.

Obedience to the will/command of the Lord will keep (ETH) us in close contact/communion in/with Him AND keeps HIM, the Holy Spirit, in close contact/communication with us. Remember, the Holy Spirit is God and is Jesus’ chosen representative to be with us ALWAYS (John 14:16,18,23,26). BUT…BUT…BUT… just as in the natural, two people can live in the same house and yet be at odds with each other, actually living separate lives and failing to interact with each other, so too, will disobedience, ie., SIN, create a spiritual wedge between the believer and the Holy Spirit, seriously harming close camaraderie and companionship with Him. Believers, our intentional obedience to the word/will of God keepETH us in intimate communion and fellowship with/in Him. We want the Holy Spirit to be our Paraclete, working alongside with/in/through us in harmony (peace). This requires…obedience to His commands. Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

1 John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

We believers will spend the remainder of our lives on earth endeavoring to keep just two commandments - 1) loving our God with everything we are and have, and 2) loving everyone else as we should love ourselves (Matthew 22:37-40). Every other statute and judgment given by God hinges on those two essentials, therefore, if we truly obey these two commands, from the very lips of Jesus, we will satisfy our God’s requirements, even if we don’t necessarily PLEASE OURSELVES. And…believers, if we strive to please our Lord, we will NOT please ourselves; we will crucify our flesh and its fleshly desires, we will NOT lean to our own understanding or yield to our own agenda, we will NOT conform to the world’s ever changing, messy, sinful and vacillating ways. We will renew our minds to align with the Word/Will/Command of God, and ask…according to that SAME word/will/command. So really, HIS will MUST BECOME…our will. Then…we will surely RECEIVE whatever we request. Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

Many of us have heard the saying, “Talk is cheap”, but the truth is - just because we say we LOVE someone/thing, doesn’t make it so. Beautiful sounding words are often lies and can produce tragic results. Many young girls, women and men have been deceived by spoken, whispered, even tearful words of declared “love” only to be left alone, deluded, embarrassed, destitute and heartbroken.

Thus comes another oft heard saying, “Put your money where your mouth is”, because…True love “COSTS PLENTY”. It cost our Father the death of His sinless Son, and if we are children of the Father, His love will be our primary motivation in everything we do that is of value to Him. Loving is giving, not expecting payback or return, but giving because it meets another’s need. Time, talent and treasure are willingly forked over; the words “I love you” may never be uttered, but the love is PRESENT, ACTIVE and POWERFUL. God’s love flowing through us will serve to bind us together through trying times, tribulation and sorrow. Our hands will remain open in support of others, our shoulders and backs will aid in sharing the burdens of many. Our bodies, lifestyle and activities will pay the true price to love. We will not simply declare the words of 1 Corinthians 13 vainly; we will live them, valiantly, in the Name and service of our Lord. If we are truly children of the God who IS LOVE, we must DO/BE love. It’s in our spiritual DNA. Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora
