Genesis 7:16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.

Noah obediently completed the task God had assigned him, but it was God who “put the period on the end of the sentence”, as it were. “God shut him in”. Sometimes, God hedges you in, secures you in place, keeps you…where He wants you to be. He often does this to confirm that your actions of obedience were exactly as He willed and that…regardless of what is to follow, you are right where He wants you to be…in the center of His will.

I can imagine that as the rain first began to fall from the sky, the people outside of the ark were curious at first, and maybe unconcerned. But as the rain turned dirt into mud and drenched their clothes, some probably sought shelter in caves, or in their abodes made of clay, twigs, etc. As the caves began to flood and crumble, and as their temporary shelters began to give way under the weight of the continuing rain, perhaps many began to seek higher ground, or the security of hardier dwellings built in the hills. Some of them begin to eye the secure vessel that Noah had spent one hundred years in preparing. Possibly, many made their way to the door of ark, yelling, screaming and begging for entrance, and it may be that Noah wanted to fling open the doors and let in the aunties, uncles, cousins, etc., that he’d tried to warn during his one hundred year assignment. But…it was God, not Noah, who had shut the door, hedging him in SAFELY, while confirming and performing His word of judgment declared in Genesis 6:7&8, against those who failed to seek the Lord…while He might have been found. So…when God shuts a door in your life…make certain that you are on the right side of the door…safe…in the center of His will. Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

Genesis 6:22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

It took Noah one hundred years to produce three sons, get them married, build and furnish the Ark (Genesis 5:32, 6:18 AND Genesis 7:6), and herd all the living creatures into it. Today’s scripture verse is reiterated yet again in Genesis 7:5. Noah followed God’s instructions EXACTLY. He 100% obeyed God. He did not do LESS AND…he did NOT do more. It is important that when heeding God’s word and doing His will, that we DO what God commands WITHOUT adding to it OR subtracting from it (Deuteronomy 12:32), regardless of how long completing His desire may take. He does NOT need our personal touches, or thoughtless deletions. All is 100%, not 95% nor 105%. Let us do our best to do HIS WILL…and not our own. Offered in the the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

Genesis 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

It was in Genesis, chapter 6, when God began to shorten the natural lifespan of the human. Up until then, people were living well over five hundred years; yet with all of the time available to cling to the Lord, people were choosing evil sinful ways as a lifestyle. By verse five of Genesis 6, “GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually”.

The condition of the world then, sounds like the condition of the world today. I am certain that then (Genesis 6:6), as now, the intent and actions of the majority of humanity grieve our God’s heart. Throughout the word of God, our Lord has declared, judgment WILL come. In Genesis 6, He decided to destroy mankind as it was then. Today, through the scriptures of the Bible, we know the time of judgment against the entire world is eminent and WILL occur, just as it occurred in the book of Genesis.

We as believers should be grateful for the “BUT” of today’s scripture verse. Because Noah found ‘grace’ (underserved favor, kindness) in the LORD’s sight, Noah became the “exception” to God’s decree of judgment, and the human race was saved. God has made “exceptions” (buts!!) throughout history; He saved all the firstborn Israelites on the evening of the first Passover, but His judgment was executed upon the remainder of Egypt. He saved those under the age of twenty years, when the Israelites yet rebelled against Him; those twenty years and over (BUT for Caleb and Joshua) died in the wilderness without ever seeing the land promised. Although the northern and southern kingdoms of Israel were later displaced and went into captivity for seventy years, God yet provided a ‘remnant’ (again, another ‘but’) to return to their land and inhabit it.

Today, the world’s wickedness and disobedience to the will of God is rampant and in full force. Yet, we believers should be grateful and rejoice; we are the “BUT”, the exceptions that flourish according to the “grace” of God. Let us remain faithful to Him and ‘position’ ourselves to stay in His grace as we CONTINUE to “WALK WITH GOD” (Genesis 6:9), as Noah did. Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

Jeremiah 36:2&3 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nation from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day. It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

God ALWAYS desires repentance over judgment and punishment. He instructed Jeremiah to put all of the prophesies God had declared against Israel and Judah IN PRINT. These words of God became the BOOK OF JEREMIAH! The people had HEARD the Lord’s pronouncements against the northern and southern kingdom; now they would SEE those declarations in print. Jeremiah’s visions (God’s prophesies), just as the law and commands written through Moses, years ago, were to be emphasized through the written word. God’s desire was to convince His people of the truth, certainty and power of His word. He wanted the individuals of Israel and Judah to act as ONE in repentance; God wanted to forgive and cover their sin.

Today, we believers have the word of God IN PRINT. The hope is that each of us will heed its directions and warnings. When judgment comes, we want to be secure in God’s continuing grace and MERCY. We want our shortcomings, failings, sin and iniquities to be covered and removed by His eternal love and forgiveness offered to “whosoever will” (John 3:16); BECAUSE we have repented and returned to His grace and fellowship (1 John 1:9). Genesis 5:24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not; for God took him.

This is an awesome scripture. Enoch was an extraordinary person, not because he fathered Methuselah (who lived the longest on earth), nor because he was great grandfather to Noah (the human considered responsible for continuing life on earth after the flood); but because he WALKED WITH GOD. Enoch committed sin, just like all humans; he was as spiritually dead (his spirit separated from God by sin) as Adam (after he sinned in the garden of Eden). But his SOUL (mind) was drawn to and sought God, completely. Hebrews 11:5 says, “By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God”

God literally and physically translated (transferred, transported, etc.,) Enoch at the young age of 365 (compared to his ancestors and descendants), not because he was perfect, but because he’d trained his mind (soul) to operate by faith in God alone. God whisked his body away and no one ever found it. Enoch did not have the Ten Commandments to guide him, as we have. God’s written law was not available to him, as it is to us. He did not have the prophets or the words of Jesus to guide him, as we do. Yet he innately knew the difference between God’s good and the devil’s evil, and he consistently and continuously chose to follow God. He was human; I’m sure he stumbled in his life’s walk, but he always got back up, reoriented on God, and continued to follow HIM, by faith. And, it is Enoch’s faith in his God that pleased and impressed God to the point that Enoch did NOT experience death in the manner that most of us do. His, Moses’ and Elijah’s bodies were never found by others. Moses and Elijah had much more spiritual guidance than Enoch, but Enoch learned very early…to walk by faith in God, who Himself is faithful (Lamentations 3:23). Believers, even if we don’t hear our God as clearly as we’d like, and even if our paths and ways are NOT defined and lit up like a neon sign, we too must DAILY place our faith in our God and walk WITH Him. God has made it easier for us to do so; we have the blood of Jesus and His prayers of intercession for us as protection, the Holy Spirit within and the written Word of God to guide us. Jeremiah 35:13 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to my words? saith the LORD.

Please read Jeremiah 35 in its entirety. God told Jeremiah to gather the Rechabites (a clan of people, all descendants of one man named Jonodab) together in one private place and set w**e before them. Jeremiah urged them to drink the free w**e provided. The Rechabites, one and all, refused to drink w**e, because their father had given them a specific lifestyle to follow (vs 6-10). They loved, respected and honored their father; regardless of the circumstances or promise of anonymity, they would not disobey him.

God, like Jonodab, had given the Israelites a distinct lifestyle they were to follow. God was not just an ordinary daddy; He is the LORD of hosts (armies). His angels obey His every word; He speaks…and it is so. God had proven Himself faithful to His chosen people and deserved their love, respect and OBEDIENCE. Jeremiah (like the Lord sometimes does), put the Rechabites in a ‘situational test’. The w**e was free, the location was secret. They could disregard their father’s teaching without (seeming) retribution. But the Rechabites weren’t even tempted; they loved and respected their father and his wise commands too much to willingly disobey him/them, even if there would be no apparent penalty for doing so.

There is reward in obedience, even to the lessons and commands of an earthly father. God approved of the Rechabites immovable commitment to the word of their father and blessed them accordingly (vs 18&19). But, to His own chosen people, God decreed judgment and chastisement (vs 16&17).

When the Lord gives us a ‘situational test’, will we believers choose to stand firm in obedience to our Lord’s will? Will we remember that our ‘heavenly’ Father is none other than the LORD of hosts? Will we choose HIS wisdom and will over our own? Or, will we yield to the conditions of the situation and flunk (fail) the test? Remember, our Father sees…everything; with HIM there is NO anonymity. Genesis 4:13&14 And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from Thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

Cain has murdered his brother. When God questioned him, Cain DID NOT openly confess. He answered God’s question with one of his own. He refused to be honest and come clean. Cain buried the result of his sin in the earth, out of physical sight, but it was perfectly visible to the LORD. God stated the obvious; Cain’s sowing of anger and murder would be reciprocated; his cultivation of soil would no longer bring forth good results. Cain could no longer be planted in home and family; he had given that up when he took what he could not replace (a life). Cain ended fellowship with his entire family when he snuffed out Abel’s life. God didn’t curse Abel, He merely reiterated what Abel had done to himself.

Abel’s response was NOT one of guilt, shame or even remorse. He selfishly declared that his punishment was too severe! He essentially accused God of being unjust! He blamed God for the wages (payment) that he (Cain) would receive for his actions. Not once did he ask for forgiveness or mercy. He did not acknowledge that he deserved chastisement. He was neither sorry, nor repentant.

Before we shake the head and point the finger at Cain, we should think about our own sinful acts. God could have ended Cain’s physical life the minute that Cain killed Abel, but He did not. God’s mercy spared Cain’s life and gave him time to reflect, confess and repent. The scriptures don’t reveal if Cain ever chose to reconnect with the LORD; but we believers have that opportunity, EVERY TIME, we fall short of God’s expectations, to reflect, confess our sin act (see it and say it as God sees and says it), and repent. When we sin, do we accuse the Lord of not being just, when we begin to reap the consequences of our sin? If we are to endure chastisement, we should yet be GRATEFUL; our God offers total forgiveness and will remain with AND FOR us, even as we reap the bitterness of the lemon seeds we may have sown. God’s remaining presence can turn even the sourest and tartest lemons into the most refreshing lemonade, IF we learn and grow from our faults and failures, and allow Him RETAKE the lead in our lives and direct our ways and paths. Genesis 4:6&7 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door, And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

The presence of sin in a person’s life doesn’t necessarily prevent God from speaking to that person. It merely places God and that person on OPPOSITE sides and of course, because of God’s great love for the world, God wants that person to see his/her error, repent and receive forgiveness and an opportunity to enjoy true communion and fellowship with Him.

Cain was so angry that it was visible in his face. He’d expected the LORD to accept WHATEVER he offered HIM, and because God did not react as he’d expected, he chose to direct his anger, NOT AT GOD OR at himself, but at the one whose offering God had respected; his younger brother, Abel. God’s words to Cain DID NOT refer to or address Abel; God doesn’t compare one individual to another, He does not foster spiritual competition. God tells Cain (my own words), “If you do and give your best to Me, won’t I accept and respect your faithful intent? To do so is YOUR choice, but if you DON’T choose to fully honor Me, your choice DISTANCES you from Me. The power to choose is ALWAYS yours. Do you give over to your own understanding and ways, or do you GIVE YOUR ALL to Me?”

There are times when we believers don’t offer God our best; we give Him leftovers - left over time, left over praise, left over thanks, left over effort, left over love. Believers, what we do to honor and bless our God DIRECTLY REFLECTS the intent and desire of the heart. Does He accept us and our offering? If we are angry, is the anger righteous? Rebellious? Selfish? Otherwise misdirected? “If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted?” Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

Both Cain and Abel had offered a sacrifice to the Lord (Genesis 4:3-5). God accepted Abel AND his offering. God rejected Cain and his offering. This is an important point to ponder; if God doesn’t RESPECT (accept) the person…why would He accept that person’s offering? God NEEDS no physical thing from humanity; He NEEDS no sacrifice. He WANTS relationship and fellowship with the individual. The fact that Abel offered the blood of an animal and Cain offered produce (grain, veggies, fruit) matters little. If Abel had been the farmer and Cain the shepherd YET their motives, intent and desires had remained the same, God STILL would have accepted Abel and respected his offering and rejected Cain and his offering. God always searches the heart. If the heart is earnestly seeking the Lord, that person will find Him and be accepted. The offering merely ‘reflects’ the condition/intent of the heart, and God wants…our BEST offering. To be continued…Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

Genesis 3:24 So He drove out the man and He placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep (hedge, guard, protect) the way of the tree of life.

It was God who protected the human race by driving Adam and Eve from the garden. “The” tree of life is not mentioned again in the Bible until John records Jesus’ words in the book of Revelation (Revelation 2:7), when Jesus grants the ‘overcomer’ the right to eat of its fruit in God’s paradise. Revelation further states that the tree of life is spectacular; it produces twelve different fruits AND its leaves provide healing for the different nationalities that will gather in God’s paradise. Jesus’s death on the cross at Calvary makes it possible for descendants of Adam to “overcome” the nature and penalty of sin, and live FOREVER in complete unity and harmony with our Creator, Father and the ONE, whose love for the world, protected humanity from living forever in sin’s fallen state. God barred Adam from eternal separation from Him by forcing him out of the garden; then God demonstrated His unfailing love for His creation when He GAVE/sent the ‘last Adam’ (Jesus) to rectify the mess and reverse the curse that Adam’s choice initiated (John 3:16). Yes, Jesus’ death at Calvary gained access to “the” tree of life for every ‘twice born’ (born again (John 3:3,5-7)) descendant of Adam and Eve. Hallelujah. Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora
