Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

“Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them….”

This phrase is in response to yesterday’s scripture lesson (Revelation 12:10), which shows that the devil was thrown out of the 3rd heaven (the place where God’s throne, the heavenly altar, the mansions prepared for believers, etc., are) by Michael and the obedient angels (Revelation 12:7-10). Satan no longer has any foothold THERE.

“…woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you,…”

This “woe” is particularly applicable to the ‘yet unsaved’, BUT even born again believers yet living on earth must take note and due diligence. The devil knows he was eternally defeated at Calvary, YET he continues his fight against believers EVEN AFTER THEY ARE GRANTED ETERNAL LIFE. As long as a believer dwells on earth, the enemy will attempt to diminish and tarnish the believer’s right to an abundant and fulfilling life on earth. He does not want the believer to complete the Lord’s great commission; he does not want the believer to have any positive effect on unbelievers that yet remain on earth. He wants to take as many humans with him to eternal hell as possible. We believers can readily see the havoc the enemy continues to create, even in our families, communities, cities, and countries all over the world. He is active in our governments and world leaders, and has succeeded in DECEIVING many of the “born again” at various times in life. Believers, as time advances and marches on, the devil is NOT going to ease up his attacks on the world nor against the believer yet on earth. Our God has given us ample defenses against the wiles and tricks of the devil, BUT it is our responsibility to CONTINUALLY USE THEM. Take a moment to read the very important scripture nestled between verse 10 and 12 of Revelation 12: “And they overcame him by the blood of the LAMB, AND by the word of their TESTIMONY; and they loved not their lives unto the death”. Believers, the blood of Jesus is our ETERNAL protection; it is everlasting DEFENSE for the believer - BUT our testimony, our word of proclamation spoken boldly to a dying world is a great weapon of OFFENSE; its TRUTH will destroy the lie of the enemy and any foothold that he attempts to plant in our lives, AND it serves to encourage other believers who may be struggling a bit in their walk and work for Christ. Our testimony takes the form of prayer, praise and everyday conversation; it is evident in our daily walk and the works of our hands. The devil will certainly continue to accuse the believer and remind him/her of the past - but BELIEVERS - it is OUR job to fight back in the SPIRIT and power of our God and Savior, and continually remind the enemy…OF HIS FUTURE! With the blood of Jesus and our testimony, WE FIGHT, WE WIN…for we are ALREADY…OVERCOMERS! Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

Revelation 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the power of His Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down which accused them before our God day and night.

The Book of Revelation not only portrays and foretells of things and events that WILL happen; it also reveals things and events of things that have ALREADY HAPPENED. The previous verses (Revelation 12:7-9) to the study verse reveal that there WAS war in heaven; the archangel, Michael, and God’s obedient angels fought against Satan (then called Lucifer) and his angels (see Isaiah 14:12-16, Luke 10:18); Lucifer and his host were defeated and cast out of heaven. They fell to earth, where the devil and those ‘fallen alngels’ (demons) even today, continue to exercise rebellion against God, by attacking and accusing ‘the believer’. The enemy now blames and rails against believers everywhere, bringing attention to the believer’s sin, shortcomings, failure and/or inadequacies before God. Remember the story of Job, when Satan accused Job, not once but twice (Job 1:1-2:10)? Remember the temptations that Jesus endured in the wilderness after He’d been baptized (Matthew 4:1-11)? But JESUS is the NOW (study verse), the salvation, the power, the believer’s defender, advocate (1 John 2:1-2) and propitiation (atonement, extinguisher of guilt) who NOW resides in heaven in the seat of power, next to the Father. Each time the accuser attempts to strip the believer of his/her right standing and peace with the Father, Jesus is there, with nail scarred feet and hands, plus His sinless powerful blood, forever on the heavenly altar, as proof that the believer’s sin debt is ETERNALLY and FOREVERMORE PAID IN FULL. We believers NOW have the right and privilege of bold access to the Father through the FINISHED work of our Savior and Christ, JESUS! HALLELUJAH!!! Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

Jeremiah 20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of Him, nor speak any more in His name. But His word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

(continued from previous study lesson)

“…But His word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.”

The RECEIVED word of God will bring spiritual rebirth and eternal life (John 3:16), change/convert the mind/soul (Psalm 19:7), heal and bring deliverance (Psalm 107:20), increase faith (Romans 10:17), and bring boldness (Acts 4:29) to the believer. When a person really and truly accepts God’s word as TRUTH, that believer will act on the SUBSTANCE of his/her faith, FIRST, by SPEAKING IT. God’s word was sweet to Jeremiah’s taste/tongue/soul (Jeremiah 15:16). He FULLY received it. It was IN his soul (mind), changing even himself, inwardly. It is common knowledge, both in the natural/physical and in the spiritual…whatever goes into you…eventually comes out (Matthew 12:34, 15:8-11, Luke 6:45). Jeremiah could no more stop the Word of God from flowing from his lips than he could stop digested food from eventually flowing from his body. Believers, we are all responsible for the Word we ingest/digest/receive. If we too, receive God’s word in faith, it will manifest inwardly and change our (and hopefully others) lives outwardly. Like Jeremiah…we won’t be able to hold it in. Amen. So let it be. Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

Jeremiah 20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of Him, nor speak any more in His name. But His word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

If you read the verses in Jeremiah 20 preceding the study verse, you will get a better idea of Jeremiah’s dilemma and circumstance. He had wholeheartedly eaten (digested, ingested, received, adhered to) God’s word (Jeremiah 15:16). He’d repeated God’s judgments word for word, to everyone and everywhere the Lord sent him. He was God’s representative and should have been received with warm respect and honor, but because of the content (JUDGMENT) of those words, Jeremiah was summarily rejected and persecuted, both verbally and physically. At the time of this scripture, the high priest’s son (Pashur) had physically attacked Jeremiah and placed him in stocks to be publicly ridiculed. Jeremiah had had enough; he was God’s prophet, but no one had received him as such. Daily, he was rejected and despised JUST AS JESUS WOULD LATER BE (Isaiah 53:3). Although he certainly was God’s prophet, he was NOT treated as people of God should treat a prophet. Jeremiah decided (Jeremiah 20:7-9) to just be quiet, and not warn people of the judgment yet to come. He knew that even if he didn’t warn the people, judgment would still come because the Lord had spoken and decreed it. His own people had treated him so shamefully, they deserved whatever they got. So Jeremiah TRIED to “just be quiet”. To be continued…Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

Ezekiel 2:8 (-) 3:3 (Verse 😎 But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee. (Verse 3). And He said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

(continued from previous study lesson)

If you read the ENTIRE scriptures given above, you will note that the roll of the book, although sweet as honey to the taste, was covered with lamentations, mourning and woe. How can something so pleasant to the tongue produce the bitterness to the belly found in the related scriptures of Revelation 10:9&10? Well, the imagery of Ezekiel, John and Jeremiah shows these men consuming the very WORD OF GOD, and it was the unadulterated word that they were to repeat to God’s people. These prophets were OBEDIENT to their call, so THAT WORD would work FOR THEM; it would be health to their (own) navel (Proverbs 3:5-8), like the nutrients that flow from an expectant mother to her unborn child through the umbilical cord. Yet, the word was NOT just for them; these prophets were the conduit through which God’s word flowed. God’s word is MULTI-FACETED; it is PROFITABLE and works as ‘doctrine’, ‘REPROOF’, ‘CORRECTION’ and ‘instruction in righteousness’ (2 Timothy 3:16&17). The WORD OF GOD through these prophets was SPIRITUAL MEDICATION to God’s people. If accepted, AND INGESTED/APPLIED, it would heal the inward parts of the belly, and heal/correct the spiritual condition. To the obedient, the word is like sweet honey; to the disobedient and unrepentant, the word will reprove, correct, chastise, and often produce BITTER, yet JUST and RIGHTEOUS results/manifestations. Our job, as OBEDIENT, compliant, faithful disciples, is to 1) eat God’s word and allow it to spiritually and positively change/charge us from the inside 2) Do NOT alter His word in any way as we share it with other believers, ie., whether they be obedient or rebellious. God’s word IS TRUTH…and it WILL WORK…as HE WILLS. Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

Ezekiel was a prophet, sent from God, TO THE PEOPLE OF GOD. The “prophet” is one of the ‘five fold’ ministry gifts (the “gift” IS the person), GIVEN by Christ (Ephesians 4:8-12) in order to ‘perfect’ (mature) the SAINTS (believers), NOT the UNbelievers. I encourage you to read Ezekiel 2:1-3:5). The Bible, the Word of God, is not really for the unbeliever; it is the manual of Basic Information Before Leaving Earth, given expressly to the born again believer in Christ. As stated before in the previous study lesson, the believer’s message to the unbelieving world is simply that of God’s love for them and the offer of salvation through Christ. The rest of the WORD…is for the believer. In Ezekiel 2, Ezekiel is being commissioned to address the children of Israel, the chosen people of God, described in Ezekiel 2:3 as ‘a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against ME: they have transgressed against ME, even unto this very day’. Today, we believers are to EAT the precious word of God; NOT to proclaim judgment against the world, but to aid in bringing the BODY OF CHRIST into the UNITY OF FAITH (Ephesians 4:13). The Lord will not judge the world without a rule of measure (appropriate measuring device, ie., a ruler, measuring stick). Judgment begins at the household of faith, it begins with the church, with believers. Just as the Lord sent Ezekiel to his own people, so too must the faithful believer minister FIRST to the body of Christ. Those of us who are faithfully eating the word of God must be diligent in not just consuming it, but applying it to manage and guide our own lives first. But…it doesn’t stop there. Revelation 10:9&10. And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book . And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

(continued from previous study lesson)

The “words” which John, Jeremiah and Ezekiel devoured were NOT just for them. Those words were the LORD’S very own words of prophesy, truth and JUDGMENT, and they were to be spoken to those to whom they’d been sent. Jeremiah’s words expressly directed to the southern kingdom of Judah; Ezekiel’s words were for those yet living in Jerusalem before they went into captivity, as well as to those Jews living in captivity in Babylon, who would hopefullly one day return to Jerusalem to renew covenant with the Lord and rebuild the temple. Both of these prophets “prophesies” contained the judgments of God for disobedience and rebellion, and also “revealed” future events and depictions for future believers in the LORD GOD. The words that John devoured (scripture verses) were not just for him or only for those living in his present time. Verse 11 of Revelation 10 says, “Thou must prophecy again before MANY PEOPLES, and NATIONS, and TONGUES, and KINGS. Those words of God, spoken by His prophets, REMAIN TODAY. They are to be ingested by faithful believers of our God, worldwide (this is the sweetness and joy of the word in the obedient believer). BUT, these same words are to be delivered as warning to those of us believers who may have gone astray and need to repent and change direction (this is the bitterness in the belly - REMEMBER, we are ONE BODY in Christ). To the unbelieving world, our message is simply that of God’s love for them and the offer of salvation through Christ, because…one CANNOT clean a fish…until he catches it. Selah. Revelation 10:9&10. And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book.

John was not only one of the twelve disciples of Jesus, he was also a prophet; God revealed the entire book of Revelation THROUGH John, who not only experienced life with Jesus in the flesh, but also witnessed HIS death, burial, resurrection and ascension. The Spirit has allowed John to see many things that will surely come to pass in the near and distant future; these things, he recorded - thus, the book of Revelation.

The above scripture DIRECTLY relates to yesterday’s scripture lesson, written by another of the Lord’s prophets, Jeremiah (Jeremiah 15:16), AND it strongly resembles the revelation given to the prophet Ezekiel (Ezekiel 2:8-3:3). In each of these scriptures, the prophet has been directed to EAT God’s words, which, at first, tastes great. Please meditate on these scriptures. Jeremiah 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and Thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by Thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

The Lord handpicked Jeremiah to do a very difficult task. He was NOT sent to bring good news; He was commanded to speak God’s judgment to his own countrymen. He continually urged the southern kingdom of Judah to repent and when they consistently failed to change their direction and lifestyle, he warned them of their upcoming captivity and urged them to cooperate with their captors. His message so infuriated the leaders and citizens of Judah that they purposely discredited him and sought to kill him. BUT…Jeremiah knew that God had given him the message, and although it was bitter medicine to an ailing nation, he followed the LORD’s command and spoke His words of judgment. Like Jesus, he spoke the word of TRUTH to a disbelieving unrepentant world.

Jesus prayed that believers would be sanctified (set apart) through God’s TRUTH, which HE defined as the WORD (John 17:17). When a believer receives (eats) the Word of God and honors it as the absolute UNCHANGING TRUTH, although it may be bitter and difficult to digest, it brings INNER healing and deliverance (Psalm 107:20). It converts the believing soul, brings wisdom to the simple, REJOICES THE HEART, enlightens the spiritual eyes (understanding), endures forever (is unchanging), is entirely righteous and is MORE TO BE DESIRED than gold, conveniences or carnal delight (Psalm 19:7-10). Additionally, God’s WORD, HIS TRUTH not only WARNS the believer, but if adhered to, will result in GREAT REWARD (Psalm 19:11).

Today, lawmakers and leaders of various countries and governments worldwide, have turned from the TRUTH of God’s word. We have substituted our own ways and laws and declared, “if it feels good, do it”, “If it is legal, it is right”, and “if it brings us wealth by any means it is lawful”. We have forsaken God’s truth with no SHAME nor REPENTANCE. Believer, if you are called by the Name of the LORD God of hosts (scripture verse), you have a responsibility and duty to live “by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Deuteronomy 8:3, Matthew 4:4). His Word, however hard, harsh or seemingly unyielding , will rejoice your heart, and bring health and deliverance to your soul. EAT…THE WORD. Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora

Jeremiah 18:20 Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before Thee to speak good for them, and to turn away Thy wrath from them.

Sometimes, the very people you intercede for in prayer are the ones who turn against you, slander your name, verbally attack you, etc. Jeremiah had prayed to God for his people with regard to the coming judgment, but those same people were discrediting him and trying to get rid of him. The verses FOLLOWING today’s scripture verse show Jeremiah changing the tone of his prayer; he wanted the Lord to spew vengeance upon them and punish them, REALLY because of their treatment of him (Jeremiah). We ARE NOT to follow the example of Jeremiah’s request to God, EVEN if we find ourselves in similar situations. We are to remember Jesus’ words of Matthew 5:11-12, “Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you FALSELY, for My sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you”. He says, “Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you” (Luke 6:28). Jeremiah DID NOT have Jesus’ words to heed and faithfully obey, but we believers do. Just as He prayed to His Father to forgive them because of their ignorance (Luke 23:34), OUR PRAYER must be similar in fervor. We must not pray “an eye for an eye”; we must in effect “Do unto others as you WOULD HAVE them do unto you”, thus fulfilling the SECOND great commandment, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor AS thyself” (Matthew 22:39). As disciples of Jesus, we must FORGIVE, and leave vengeance to the LORD as we continue to pray FOR those who misuse and abuse us. Offered in the Name of Jesus - Amen Cora
