Join us Sundays at 9:30 am (in English) or 11:30 am (en Español). We look forward to getting to know you! vcsm.org We are a multi-ethnic church.

We embrace the culture and peoples of our neighborhood and city, believing that God loves them so much that He placed us right where we are! We describe Santa Maria Foursquare as ONE church with TWO congregations, serving both Spanish and English speakers. We are a multi-generational church. Founded in 1927, the Santa Maria Foursquare Church moved to our current Curryer Street campus in 1959. We have a strong legacy of ministry and engagement with our city that spans generations. What an honor to have kids worshiping alongside their parents, grandparents and in some cases, great grandparents! Hope you'll join us as we grow together to be more like Jesus!

THE THREE WAYS GOD IS CLOSER THAN YOU THINK

1. With Us: God's Holy Spirit is with us even before we know it, long before we ever say yes to Jesus. In Exodus 33:14, God promised His people, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."

2. In Us: When we say yes to Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to live in us. Jesus said the Holy Spirit "lives with you now and later will be in you" (John 14:17). After rising from the dead, He breathed on His followers and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit" (John 20:22).

3. Upon Us: His followers already had the Holy Spirit in them, yet Jesus still told them, "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you" (Acts 1:8). When His power comes upon us, God enables us to do all that He activates us to do.

The Holy Spirit is with us before we say yes, in us the moment we do, and upon us with power for all God has for us to do. That same presence has been alongside us, working on our behalf, the whole time.

THAT HOBBY YOU DOWNPLAY MIGHT BE A GIFT FROM GOD

The Holy Spirit will activate creativity in you. The very first time in all of the Bible that God sent His Spirit into someone, it was to make an artisan.

Moses, Israel's leader, had God's plans for a tabernacle, a tent that would house His presence. After 400 years of slavery, His people were good at making bricks, with no downtime for fine crafts. So God chose a man named Bezalel: "I have filled him with the Spirit of God" (Exodus 31:3).

Along with His Spirit, God gave Bezalel "great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts." He became a master with gold, silver, and bronze, engraving gemstones, and carving wood (Exodus 31:3-5).

God loves beauty. Even out in the middle of the desert, He was saying, "We're going to create something beautiful here." God loves creativity.

Maybe there's a gift you've been hiding or underrating. You've told yourself, "This is just a talent." Could it be the Holy Spirit activating something of His creativity within you?

The question is never, is God leading us? The question is always, how will we respond?

WHAT ISRAEL'S WORST DAY DID FOR YOURS

Israel was in exile in Babylon. They'd been kicked out of their homes, taken captive, and sent away. It was the worst thing that could possibly happen to them.

God's answer through Jeremiah was surprising: settle in, settle in, plant, marry, bear children. Jeremiah 29:7 goes even further: "Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper."

Engage right where you are. Seek the good of the city. Live life to the fullest, aligned with His ways. God was doing something much bigger than anyone could see.

Behind the scenes, prophets foretold a Messiah. Daniel won favor with Nebuchadnezzar. Esther won favor with Xerxes and saved her people from genocide. God used Cyrus, King of Persia, to send the exiles home. Persia paid for the rebuilding of the temple.

Through the faithful few who returned, the Messiah was born to be the Savior of all people. If Israel hadn't gone into exile, we wouldn't be here. Their captivity brought our salvation and brought us into God's family.

Abundance didn't look like anyone thought it would. We get to live an abundant life with Jesus because of friends who went into exile thousands of years ago. So when our worst day comes, remember: He's thinking of something far greater than we are.
