We embrace the culture and peoples of our neighborhood and city, believing that God loves them so much that He placed us right where we are! We describe Santa Maria Foursquare as ONE church with TWO congregations, serving both Spanish and English speakers. We are a multi-generational church. Founded in 1927, the Santa Maria Foursquare Church moved to our current Curryer Street campus in 1959. We h

ave a strong legacy of ministry and engagement with our city that spans generations. What an honor to have kids worshiping alongside their parents, grandparents and in some cases, great grandparents! Hope you'll join us as we grow together to be more like Jesus!

The One Thing That Prepares You For A Move Of God

There was a man named Cornelius, a Roman centurion in command of a hundred soldiers, and he was about to experience a radical move of God he never saw coming.

Acts 10 says he was devout, He feared God, He was generous to the Jewish people around him, and He always prayed to God. So here's the first thing that prepared him: He sought the Lord.

But here's what's striking. Cornelius didn't learn to pray from Christians. At this point he had no idea who Jesus even was, so where did his prayer life come from?

He was living among the Jewish people, and that's who he learned to pray from. He was introduced to their prayers, shaped by what we call the Old Testament. To them it was simply Scripture.

So he would have come across the Psalms, maybe even the prayers of King David, like Psalm 63: "You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory."

And you can picture Cornelius, a Roman far from home, cut off from the people he loved, reading those words and saying, that's me. I feel dry and parched in this foreign land. But he saw something in God that drew Him in, and he began making those prayers his own.

So even before he met Jesus, God was already transforming his life. We know it because devotion, the fear of God, and generosity don't come from human nature. They're always a reflection of God's supernatural character.

And that tells us how Cornelius prayed. He wasn't just asking God to do this or fix that. Like David, He prayed from a place of longing: God, I just want to be in Your presence. I want to know who You are so I can be transformed into Your likeness.

Many Years In Church Won't Make You Mature

That's where Elisha was when he received the portion of the Spirit. He didn't just receive the mantle, he also received a new responsibility.

So do you know how we actually mature in the church?

Not by how many years you've been here. Twenty years in the church doesn't make you mature.

Do you know what makes you mature? Submitting to responsibility, taking it on, assuming it as your own.

Because when you take responsibility, that's when you start to learn. You mess up, and you discover, oh, you don't do it that way.

So how many of us want to be used by God? Then turn to the person next to you and say, take responsibility.

Many of us want the power of God, but few want the responsibility that comes with that power.

And that's what it means to be developed in the character of God. Many of us want miracles. Maturity asks for more.
