We’re honored to be featured in the Summer 2026 edition of the Catholic Voice.

The Diocese of Oakland's newspaper includes a two-page feature on Church of the Assumption of Mary in San Leandro and our year-long celebration of 75 years of faith, community, and devotion to Our Blessed Mother.

The article, "A Year of Marian-Themed Celebrations Honors a Parish That Started With Humble Beginnings," shares the story of our parish's founding in 1951, our Marian heritage, and the special events marking this milestone anniversary year.

We are grateful to the Diocese of Oakland and writer Jay Sorgi for highlighting the people, traditions, and faith that have shaped Assumption for the past 75 years.

As we celebrate this anniversary, we remember all who have been part of our parish family and helped build the vibrant community we enjoy today.

Our 75th Anniversary celebration is featured on pages 24–25 of the Summer 2026 edition of The Catholic Voice. Read the full issue online here

💙 “We are honoring our past and inspiring our future.”

Thank you to all our parishioners—past and present—who have made these 75 years possible. We look forward to celebrating with you throughout this anniversary year

Confirmed in the Holy Spirit

This evening, Very Reverend Lawrence C. D’Anjou celebrated Mass and conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation upon 22 of our parish teenagers. We are filled with gratitude and joy as these young men and women reached this important milestone in their faith journey.

Over the past two years, our Confirmation candidates have grown in faith, friendship, and service under the dedicated leadership of Jose Peña and his team. Along the way, they chose their saint names, attended three retreats, participated in liturgical ministries, and generously served our parish community through countless events and activities.

Their journey included:
• Hosting the last two St. Patrick’s Day Dinners
• Volunteering at Easter Egg Hunts
• Helping with Parish Feast Family Fun Days and Hoedowns
• Leading Stations of the Cross and Lent’s “Eat, Pray, and Give” evenings

This year they also experienced powerful retreats, including Mt. Hermon Camp in the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains with the theme “Wedding at Cana – Do Whatever He Tells You” (John 2:5), the Mission San José Retreat themed “Let Your Light Shine,” and Steubenville San Diego 2025, where they joined hundreds of Catholic teens in worship, Adoration, Confession, fellowship, and a deeper encounter with Jesus Christ.

As their two-year journey came to a close, candidates and sponsors gathered for a final session of prayer, reflection, and fellowship, celebrating the many blessings and memories they shared together.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our parishioners whose prayers, encouragement, volunteer efforts, and support through fundraisers—including the Tamale Sale, St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, and Fish Taco Fundraiser—helped make this journey possible.

A special thank you to Father John for his spiritual guidance, presence, and support of our youth throughout this journey. We are also deeply grateful to Jose Peña, whose faithful leadership and dedication have helped form and inspire this remarkable group of young Catholics.

We would also like to recognize and thank Cassie and the entire Confirmation team for their countless hours of service, encouragement, and commitment to our youth. Your dedication has made a lasting impact on the lives of these students and their families.

Please continue to keep our newly confirmed young people in your prayers as they go forth strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit and called to live out their faith as disciples of Christ.

Congratulations to our Confirmation Class of 2026! May the Holy Spirit continue to guide, strengthen, and inspire you always.

As tradition goes, Assumption University for Seniors wrapped up another wonderful school year by celebrating our graduates on the last day before summer vacation. Our seniors proudly received their certificates as we honored their commitment to learning, fellowship, and fun throughout the semester.

The afternoon continued with a delicious lunch and an engaging talk in the Parish Center, filled with laughter, stories, and gratitude for the friendships formed along the way.

Plans for the Fall semester already include a special Prom Dance and many more opportunities for Fun, Fellowship, Lunch, and Learning for adults 55 and older.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year so special. Wishing all our Assumption University students a joyful and relaxing summer break. We look forward to seeing everyone again in the fall.

Join Us in Prayer and Song – Filipino Community of Assumption
Sunday, May 31 at the 12:00 PM Mass
(Always the last Sunday of the month at noon)

The Filipino Community of Assumption (FCA) is sponsoring the Noon Mass this Sunday. Since early last year, FCA has been blessed to host the noon Mass every last Sunday of the month. Our Filipino choir will once again lift our hearts in prayer through their beautiful music.

FCA is more than just a name — we are a family of parish ministers, brothers and sisters in Christ, working together to support Assumption’s mission of serving God’s church and people. One of our biggest responsibilities is Simbang Gabi, a joyful and meaningful celebration in our parish, but we also come together for many other activities throughout the year.

May is the Month of Mary. The Rosary is prayed every evening at 6:00 PM. All are invited to come together in prayer as we honor our Blessed Mother.
