75 Years of Serving Our Community — and Still Giving Back
Yesterday’s Brown Bag Backpack Assembly was a wonderful success!
As part of Church of the Assumption’s 75th Anniversary celebration, Father John and our parish family came together for our Brown Bag Community Outreach Backpack Drive. Our goal was to collect 75 backpacks filled with school supplies — one for every year our parish has served the San Leandro community.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our parishioners and neighbors, we doubled our goal and collected an amazing 150 backpacks!
This morning, we were grateful to deliver the backpacks to the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro, where they will be distributed to local children and youth in need.
Today, the organization serves more than 6,000 young people through 26 school-based Clubs and a Teen Clubhouse, offering after-school programs, academic support, athletics, art, STEM activities and opportunities for personal growth. Their Clubs serve young people throughout San Leandro, San Lorenzo, and the New Haven community, providing programs and support that help children and teens thrive.
It is especially meaningful that both Church of the Assumption and the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro are celebrating 75 years of serving our community. What a wonderful way to mark these milestones together — by investing in the children and families who are the future of our community.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated backpacks and school supplies, helped assemble them, wrote encouraging notes, and joined us in prayer for the students who will receive them. This is what 75 years of faith, community, and service looks like in action.
Our August Brown Bag Project: Helping Mothers in Need
Our Brown Bag Community Outreach continues in August, in honor of Mary, the most loving of mothers.
This month, we are collecting diapers and baby wipes to support local mothers and babies in need. All sizes are welcome.
Donations may be dropped off in the church vestibule or parish office throughout August.
Thank you, Assumption Parish family and neighbors, for making our 75th Anniversary year a year of giving, serving, and caring for our community.
