10/06/2024
This Sunday, October 6, 2024, is the Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost in the Ancient Liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church. It is also the feast day of the great Saint Bruno, the Hermit.
I will broadcast Holy Mass from my YouTube Channel at 7:00 AM, Pacific time from the Chapel of St Athanasius in San Jose, California.
Living during evil times is always difficult. Our Blessed Lord has made us for these times. We were created specifically to go through this period in history. We can whine and wring our hands bemoaning our situation, or we can straighten our resolve and act wisely, like sober adults dealing justly with each situation as it presents itself. Remember, Our Lord said, "If you wish to follow Me, you must RENOUNCE yourself, pick up your cross DAILY, and then follow Me." Jesus is inviting us to be co-redeemers with Him by CHEERFULLY offering up everything in sacrifice to Him that it all may be sanctified by Him on the Cross of Eternal Salvation. Suppose we are not willing to embrace the will of GOD for us, sacrificing everything for the salvation of those we love in the Imitation of Christ. In that case, we truly have failed in the mission GOD gave us when we received the Sacrament of Confirmation. You are a Soldier of Christ, carry on like one, happy in the knowledge that by doing so you are fulfilling the will of GOD for you.
St Bruno, pray for us.

Commemoration of SAINT BRUNO
As a young priest, Bruno (1030-1101) was a brilliant teacher at the cathedral school of Rheims. He became rector of that school and later chancellor of the diocese. In 1084 he withdrew to the wilderness of Chartreuse and founded there a monastery of monk-hermits which grew into the Carthusian Institute, the most penitential of all contemplative communities. His character, far from being harsh, was marked by serene gaiety and tender charity. Saint Bruno is Patron of those who suffer from demonic possession.
May the prayers of the holy confessor Bruno assist us, O Lord, so that we, who have deeply offended Your majesty by our sins, may be pardoned through his merits and intercession. Through our Lord . . .
EPISTLE (Eph. 5:15-21)
See therefore, brethren, how you walk circumspectly: not as unwise, But as wise: redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore, become not unwise: but understanding what is the will of God. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is luxury: but be ye filled with the Holy Spirit, Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual canticles, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord: Giving thanks always for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God and the Father: Being subject one to another, in the fear of Christ.
GRADUAL (Ps. 144:15-16)
The eyes of all look hopefully to You, O Lord, and You give them food in due season.
V. You open Your hand, and fill every living creature with blessing.
Alleluia, alleluia! V. Ps. 107:2
My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready; I will sing and praise You, my glory. Alleluia!
GOSPEL (St. John 4:46-53)
He came again therefore into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain ruler, whose son was sick at Capharnaum. He having heard that Jesus was come from Judea into Galilee, sent to him and prayed him to come down and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.
Jesus therefore said to him: "Unless you see signs and wonders, you believe not." The ruler saith to him: Lord, come down before that my son die. Jesus saith to him: "Go thy way. Thy son liveth."
The man believed the word which Jesus said to him and went his way. And as he was going down, his servants met him: and they brought word, saying, that his son lived. He asked therefore of them the hour wherein he grew better. And they said to him: "Yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever left him." The father therefore knew that it was at the same hour that Jesus said to him: "Thy son liveth." And himself believed, and his whole house.
