On Sunday, October 27th, I was in Southern California, but as providence will have it, I was able to broadcast the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for one of the most important Liturgical Feasts of the Year: the Feast of Christ the King, at the Mission of Stella Maris (SSPX Chapel) in San Pedro, California.

Here is the link to that wonderful and holy Mass:

My family and friends down in Southern California invited me down this weekend to celebrate my birthday. So I may not be able to broadcast the Holy Mass on Sunday. I will try but can’t promise. Sorry everyone.

I praise and thank You O Lord for giving us the greatest expression of our humble adoration and worship according to Your Will. At Your Holy Liturgy, we stand again at the foot of your Cross and humbly realize our personal criminal behavior and your infinite mercy. We adore Thee O Christ and we praise Thee, because by Thy Holy Cross for Thou hadst redeemed the world.

Today is the 22nd Sunday after Pentecost in the traditional Roman calendar. I will broadcast Holy Mass this morning at 7:00 AM from the Chapel of St Athanasius in San Jose, California. The live stream can be found on my YouTube Channel, Anthony J West Channel. Please Subscribe, hit the notification bell for "all" and like my videos. I receive no monetary compensation for this but it alerts others who may be looking for traditional Catholic content on YouTube.

Now read this and understand, for what I am about to teach you is the central truth of the Gospel regarding salvation. A man may know the Sacred Scriptures by heart - Chapter and Verse, he may know all the dogmas of the faith, and obey all of the commandments, he may go to Holy Mass every day and twice on Sunday but if all that knowledge and faith do not translate into selfless love of God and neighbor and therefore into service of both it will avail you nothing.

Propers for the Mass:

INTROIT Ps. 129:3, 4
If Thou, O Lord, shalt observe iniquities; Lord, who shall endure it? for with Thee there is merciful forgiveness, O God of Israel.
Ps. 129:1-2. Out of the depths have I cried to Thee, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice.

GLORIA

Glory be . . .

COLLECT
O God, our refuge and strength, Author of all devotedness, give ear to the devoted prayers of Thy Church, and grant, that we may obtain in deed what we ask with faith. Through our Lord . . .

EPISTLE Phil. 1:6-11
Brethren: we are confident of this very thing, that he which began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ: even as it is right for me to be thus minded on behalf of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as, both in my bonds and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers with me of grace. For God is my witness, how I long after you all in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus. And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment; so that ye may approve the things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and void of offense unto the day of Christ; being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are through Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

GRADUAL Ps. 132:1-2
Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. Like the precious ointment on the head, that ran down upon the beard, the beard of Aaron.

Alleluia, alleluia! Ps. 113:11
They that fear the Lord, let them hope in Him; He is their helper and protector. Alleluia!

GOSPEL Matt. 22:15-21
At that time, the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might ensnare him in his talk. And they send to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, "Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one: for thou regardest not the person of men. Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?" But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? Shew me the tribute money." And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, "Whose is this image and superscription?" They say unto him, "Caesar’s." Then saith he unto them, "Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s."

This Sunday, October 6, 2024, is the Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost in the Ancient Liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church. It is also the feast day of the great Saint Bruno, the Hermit.
I will broadcast Holy Mass from my YouTube Channel at 7:00 AM, Pacific time from the Chapel of St Athanasius in San Jose, California.

Living during evil times is always difficult. Our Blessed Lord has made us for these times. We were created specifically to go through this period in history. We can whine and wring our hands bemoaning our situation, or we can straighten our resolve and act wisely, like sober adults dealing justly with each situation as it presents itself. Remember, Our Lord said, "If you wish to follow Me, you must RENOUNCE yourself, pick up your cross DAILY, and then follow Me." Jesus is inviting us to be co-redeemers with Him by CHEERFULLY offering up everything in sacrifice to Him that it all may be sanctified by Him on the Cross of Eternal Salvation. Suppose we are not willing to embrace the will of GOD for us, sacrificing everything for the salvation of those we love in the Imitation of Christ. In that case, we truly have failed in the mission GOD gave us when we received the Sacrament of Confirmation. You are a Soldier of Christ, carry on like one, happy in the knowledge that by doing so you are fulfilling the will of GOD for you.

St Bruno, pray for us.

Propers for Today's Holy Mass:

DOUBLE / GREEN

INTROIT (Dan 3:31, 29, 33)
All that you have done to us, O Lord, you have done in just judgment, because we have disobeyed Your Commandments; but give glory to Your own name and deal with us in accord with Your bounteous mercy.
Ps. 118:1. Blessed are they who are undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.
V. Glory be . . .

GLORIA

COLLECT
Forget Your anger, O Lord, and grant Your faithful pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from their sins and serve You without fear. Through our Lord . . .

Commemoration of SAINT BRUNO
As a young priest, Bruno (1030-1101) was a brilliant teacher at the cathedral school of Rheims. He became rector of that school and later chancellor of the diocese. In 1084 he withdrew to the wilderness of Chartreuse and founded there a monastery of monk-hermits which grew into the Carthusian Institute, the most penitential of all contemplative communities. His character, far from being harsh, was marked by serene gaiety and tender charity. Saint Bruno is Patron of those who suffer from demonic possession.

May the prayers of the holy confessor Bruno assist us, O Lord, so that we, who have deeply offended Your majesty by our sins, may be pardoned through his merits and intercession. Through our Lord . . .

EPISTLE (Eph. 5:15-21)
See therefore, brethren, how you walk circumspectly: not as unwise, But as wise: redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore, become not unwise: but understanding what is the will of God. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is luxury: but be ye filled with the Holy Spirit, Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual canticles, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord: Giving thanks always for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God and the Father: Being subject one to another, in the fear of Christ.

GRADUAL (Ps. 144:15-16)
The eyes of all look hopefully to You, O Lord, and You give them food in due season.
V. You open Your hand, and fill every living creature with blessing.

Alleluia, alleluia! V. Ps. 107:2
My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready; I will sing and praise You, my glory. Alleluia!

GOSPEL (St. John 4:46-53)
He came again therefore into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain ruler, whose son was sick at Capharnaum. He having heard that Jesus was come from Judea into Galilee, sent to him and prayed him to come down and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.
Jesus therefore said to him: "Unless you see signs and wonders, you believe not." The ruler saith to him: Lord, come down before that my son die. Jesus saith to him: "Go thy way. Thy son liveth."
The man believed the word which Jesus said to him and went his way. And as he was going down, his servants met him: and they brought word, saying, that his son lived. He asked therefore of them the hour wherein he grew better. And they said to him: "Yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever left him." The father therefore knew that it was at the same hour that Jesus said to him: "Thy son liveth." And himself believed, and his whole house.
