Discipline isn't punishment—it's a gift that produces growth.

Father, help us recognize discipline as the gift You intended it to be, not something to resent or avoid. Give us the wisdom to see that Your correction, training, and refining are expressions of Your love, shaping us into who You've called us to be. Strengthen us to embrace the process of growth, trusting that what You cultivate in us through discipline will bear fruit for Your glory. Amen.

🎓✨ Emanuel Pearlgate Baptist Church | Sermon Notes

🗓️ June 7, 2026
📖 Scripture Focus: Psalm 16:11
🎙️ Message: Don’t Lose Your Joy on the Way
As graduates step out of one season and into the next, we recognize that graduation is a beautiful milestone—but it also brings natural tension. It marks the ending of one chapter and the raw beginning of another. While we may face heavy questions about the future, God holds the answers for every single season.
The greatest danger in transitional moments is letting our changing circumstances steal our joy. True success isn't just about the achievement; if you graduate without the joy of the Lord, you still have nothing.
Here are 3 reasons why we must anchor our joy in Christ as we step into our "next":
1️⃣ God Will Direct Your Steps in Every Season

Seek Him First: Never draft plans without God in them. When you seek Him, He promises to direct your path.
He Knows Tomorrow: God already occupies your next month, your next year, and your next season. We cannot afford to move without Him.
Protective "Nos": Sometimes God doesn't allow a door to open because He knows what is on the other side. What you think you want might actually be something that would destroy you.
Trust His Heart: Even when you cannot trace His hand, you can always trust His heart. If the Lord ordered your steps, you can walk forward with total confidence in the outcome.
2️⃣ God’s Presence Will Sustain You When It Gets Heavy

Source of True Joy: The Bible doesn't say joy is found in worldly achievements; it says true joy is found in the Lord.
Protect Your Peace: The world will constantly try to steal your joy. But God provides a perfect peace that the world can neither give nor take away.
Don't Move On From God: Graduates, as you graduate in life, make sure you don't "graduate" from God. We still need Him just as much as before. He is present even in our deepest pain.
3️⃣ God’s Promises Will Carry Us Into Our Future

An Unshakable Foundation: While people may let us down, we remain completely secure when our trust is placed in God. Only He can do what no human can do.
Walk Boldly: Step confidently into your future knowing that life will test you. If your joy is securely anchored in Christ, it will always be there because of Who is walking alongside you.
A Living Testimony: Graduation is so much more than a personal accomplishment—it is a powerful testimony of the faithfulness of God. We have joy because God is a keeper!
🙌 Takeaway for the Week: Walk boldly into your next chapter, keep your eyes on Jesus, and don't lose your joy on the way!

We may be overwhelmed, but we can overcome.

Father, when life moves fast and everything demands our attention, remind us that we were never meant to carry it alone. Bring to our remembrance the countless times You helped us overcome what once seemed impossible, and strengthen us to place every worry, fear, and burden into Your hands. As we trust You, turn today's overwhelm into tomorrow's testimony of overcoming—for Your glory. Amen.

When our strength is in the Lord, we don’t run out—our weakness becomes a place of power.

Father, we all have areas where we feel weak, but we refuse to let these inadequacies have the final say. Remind us that because we belong to You, Your power is available to us. Since Your power is perfected in weakness, teach us to stop defining ourselves by what we cannot do, and instead invite You into those places, trusting You to work through them. Our strength doesn’t come from ourselves—it derives from You, so we give You every place where we feel lacking and ask You to turn it into a display of Your power. Amen.

Don't get so familiar with your ashes that you stop expecting beauty.

Father, some of us are in seasons of unpleasantries, and for the rest of us, they will come. Yet whether we see ashes or not, remind us of our position as Your children so we stay expectant for Your hand. When our hope grows quiet in the waiting, align our minds with Your truth. Keep us from settling in what You want to redeem; instead, teach us to pack our bags in expectation, remembering that in a moment You can change everything. Amen.

Jesus Still Holds His Position—Even When Earthly Positions Change

Daniel 4:17 — "The Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whom He will."

No matter how the primary ends up, one truth remains: Jesus reigns.
As California shifts to different people in office, we must remember that Jesus remains on the throne. Though we may not be like-minded on our ballots, we are like-minded in who we acknowledge as King, and that is Jesus.

Reflection Question:
Have we allowed political outcomes to influence our peace, or is our confidence rooted in Jesus' sovereignty?

Prayer:
Father, we are thankful that no shift in earthly authority can remove You from Your throne. Forgive us for placing too much of our trust in people and for allowing fear to take root in our hearts, contrary to Your call for us to be strong in Your might.
We ask You to help us consistently remember who You are and where You sit, so that even when our viewpoints differ, we may walk in the unity You have called us to, recognizing You as King. In every season, strengthen us to stand firm in our faith and remain confident that no matter who holds office, You will always reign on the throne and in our hearts. In Jesus' name, amen.

📖 Verse of the Week
I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride, beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

The year is halfway over, but God isn’t limited by time—He’s still able to move.

Father, some of us expected to be further by now, but for us, it feels like we’re standing where we started. Yet Isaiah 60:22 reminds us that You move at the appointed time. Strengthen our faith so we don’t confuse delay in our progression with Your denial. As we enter the second half of the year, we place every hope, plan, and prayer in Your hands, believing You can do more in the next 182 days than we ever could alone. Amen.
