Old First and our neighbors, St Luke’s Episcopal Church, will help Friends of the Urban Forest (FUF) plant trees in our neighborhood on Saturday morning, June 27, using a grant from Trees of Faith.

We’re hoping that Old Firsters will volunteer to work as a team with the professionals from FUF that day from 8:45 am to 1:30 pm. The variety of tasks means that folk of all strengths and statures are welcome and needed.

What’s the role for faith communities in helping more of God’s children to secure safe and affordable housing?

That was the central question behind Thursday’s day-long Faith-Based Development Summit hosted by the City of Louisville, the Local Initiatives Support Corporation and the United Church of Christ Church Building & Loan Fund. The Goodwill Opportunity Center in West Louisville hosted more than 100 attendees, who heard from speakers and panels discussing lessons learned, financing and home repairs — and what churches can do to ease the nation’s housing crisis. We are as excited as Presbyterians get to offer Access to Justice, a special opportunity for you and your social justice networks. On Sunday, June 21 at 11:30 a.m., following our weekly 10 a.m. worship service, our Living Sanctuary team will present a free panel discussion featuring local legal experts. They will share their wisdom on the current (illegal) state of US immigration policy. Speakers include Bill Hing (USF Defense Clinic) and Judge Arwen Swink and Judge Jeremiah Johnson. Both judges were recently let go from SF Immigration Court by the DOJ. We are fortunate to welcome this gifted panel.

We ask that every attendee register at the link provided in the attachments. All guests will check in before entering the meeting area, a dedicated private space in our facility.
