To be known or unknown.
Known or knowing was to be intimately acquainted with a mate. I can be aware of my girlfriend but when the marriage is consummated a man and woman come to “know” each other in the most intimate way two bodies can connect.
Many whom call themselves Christians are deluding themselves that they know the Almighty God YHWH when they are simply aware of Him and serve the version of Him they have conjured up in their mind of excuse and passivity. They live their lives with a rudimentary knowledge of His requirements and what “not to do’s” without pursuing an intimate relationship to KNOW Him and more importantly, to be KNOWN BY HIM.
Notice Jesus uses this phrase a few times with “I do not know you,” to the “Lord Lord” people and in the parable of the Bridesmaids after the five without extra lamp oil were locked out of the marriage feast. Being KNOWN by Jesus Christ and the Father is an intimate relationship.
Acts 17:22 Paul addresses the people of Athens as he passed an alter to the “UNKNOWN GOD.” Here he goes on to inform them who WHO this “unknown God” is.
“for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.””
Acts 17:23, 27, 30-31
Notice it says so that they may “seek Him” “grope for Him” and that “He is not far from us.” However once being aware of WHO He is comes with the command to “REPENT.” For He has appointed a day for a “Man,” Jesus Christ, to judge the world. Consequences come eventually for every time we swiped that grace and love credit card. The cold are the “ignorant.” The lukewarm are the people in the pews serving a god that fits their lifestyle rather than the TRUE God. The people “on the fence” looking godly yet proving false by their works. And the Devil built the fence by the way…
In the pagan form of Christianity He remains as “unknown God” because so called Christians are Luke warm about seeking, obeying, or repenting to the TRUE God through Jesus Christ fully. Or, they create a version of Him that’s “not so hard to obey” because this god looks and sounds a lot like them, or the pastor, or their parents and family tradition….
In many places of worship He remains an “unknown God” even to the very people claiming to belong to Him because they worship Him, praise Him, and are simply aware of Him with their lips rather than through surrender to His will and commands. They hide their cowardice to obey or keep the body of Christ clean under the false humility flag of “love” that is completely absent of TRUTH. They forgo confronting the sins that spread evil levin through the places of worship and call it “unloving” if they were to be bold about addressing sin to the person. Or they simply claim “it’s not my place to judge.🤷🏻♂️”
1 Corinthians 5:12–13 (ESV)
“For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside.”
Paul speaks not of judging a persons “eternal soul” or “where they stand with the Father” but rather actions that do not befit a servant claiming to represent and be an ambassador of the Most High pure God and His Son, Jesus Christ.
How many are bold enough to be balanced truth and love? How many of us truly are in an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, His Holy Spirit, and the Father? To confront sin and offense with a fellow “brother or sister” within the body of Christ with TRUTH and LOVE? Is it love to allow a brother or sister drown in their sin or in contrast to awaken them with what our Father says is or is not acceptable as a member claiming to be part of the body of Christ? To pull them out of hell with truth and love.
“But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.””
Revelation 21:8 NKJV
How many are being COWARDS yet disguising it as love when it comes to obeying God commands in their own life AND keeping the Body Of Christ pure and without stain or blemish?
How many Christians are worshiping an “unknown God in “church” every Sunday? Not because He can’t be found or is hiding from them, but rather because they have created a perverted version of The Father and worship that god instead who seem not to care so much about obedience, repentance, and exclusive devotion?
