Our last week of our Community Series went over bridging our communities. We read Acts 13:44-51 and Philippians 1:27. In both of these passages, we can find encouragement to be a light to people around us. The practices we studied in this series helps us do that intentionally. You can talk with your kids about ways they can include someone in an activity this week, whether it be eating, hanging out, playing a game, or something else.

Plan some ways as a family that you can be a light to the people around you during the summer. Share your stories with us after. We'd love to share that light.

The fifth week of our Community Series went over prayer. We read Acts 12:5-11 and learned how the Acts early church handles Peter being imprisoned. They prayed to God and stood unified. You can talk with your kids about how they handle struggles in their relationships, what prayer means to them, and why the Acts early church decided to pray first.

What have we been up to in our Community series during Connect?

Week One: We went over the creation of the Early Church in Acts 2! We read Acts 2:37-47 and explored how the disciples of Christ interacted with each other. We looked at similarities and differences in our individual communities and this early church. You can talk with your kids about why the early church held some of these practices and how they grew in relationships.

Week Two: We went over how powerful sharing meals and conversations can be. We read through Matthew 9:9-13 and Acts 8:26-31 and emphasized the importance of intentionality of growing relationships. You can talk with your kids about different ways relationships grow stronger and how you could implement those practices in your family.

Week Three: We went over having an active community. An active community doesn’t just enjoy each other’s company, but takes care of each other. We read through Acts 4:32-37 and studied what generosity within a community looks like. You can talk with your kids about different ways generosity can be shown in relationships. How can they apply these in their relationships?

Week Four: This fourth week of our Community Series went over engaging with God’s Word. We read Acts 10:34-44 and found that when the disciples engaged with God’s Word, the door was truly opened for Gentiles to have a relationship with God. It’s important to seek out what God is saying in the Bible because it can still be applicable. You can talk with your kids about habits they can have to read the Bible more consistently.

Share some ideas! What helps you engage with the Bible more consistently: routine, phone notifications, accountability partner, or something else?
