Hope for Eternity Hope for Eternity’s founder went to Ethiopia in September 2009 with her daughter and son-in-law who were adopting two Ethiopian children.

Hope for Eternity is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is designed to further God's kingdom through evangelistic and charitable ministries centered around planting Bible-based churches in Ethiopia, Africa. While there, she met and worked with officials of the Addis Kidan Church in Ethiopia and saw tremendous needs. Upon her return, she sought God’s guidance concerning how she should become in

volved. Now, Hope for Eternity has joined with the Addis Kidan Church to fund the creation of churches throughout Ethiopia, as well as providing other support to meet everyday needs of individuals and the community. So far, we have established church plants in the cities of Dessie, Dire Dawa, Fiche, Harer, Nazret, Jijiga, and Shashamane, with other sites planned for the future. The Board of Directors for Hope for Eternity is made up of committed volunteers who have a passion for ensuring Ethiopians have an opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. With no paid staff, we are able to use nearly all the donations toward fulfilling the mission of our ministry. We are an IRS approved 501(c)3 public charity. It’s back-to-school time all around the world! In the U.S. kids are getting in those last hours of “sleeping in”; parents are shopping for school supplies and clothes and shoes to replace those outgrown; and teachers are sharing Amazon lists as they work to have an inviting classroom to enhance learning. It looks quite a bit different in Ethiopia. For one thing, as of November 2025, about 7.2 million children were not attending school. Some children must work during the day to help support the family, but even more aren’t able to go to school because of conflict in the area or because they’ve been displaced. So, here’s a peek at some students in their schools: a country school where a little girl is leading other kids with ABC’s in English; 70 children rotate through this school in a remote area, half in the morning and half in the afternoon; and a city Kindergarten in Jimma. Also, many children are unable to go to school because their family doesn’t have money to buy uniforms or books. What a reminder for all of us to be thankful for schools and teachers and the ability to learn!

Here’s the Real Soccer Passion

In the frenzy of World Cup, we hear the screams and chants, see the team colors flying, and think, Wow, those are some passionate soccer fans! But here are the real fans - those coaches who don’t have the money to buy new balls so they sew up blown-out balls. It’s the players who play while dodging holes, rocks, and a variety of grazing animals. It’s the team whose players willingly share shoes so boys can play with one closed-toe shoe and the other flip-flop. In Ethiopia, they play with enthusiasm for the game in rag-tag clothes on ragged fields with smiles as big as their joy! Many of our churches in Ethiopia sponsor teams so the boys can also learn about the passion Christ has for them. Please pray for the upcoming election in Ethiopia scheduled for June 1. A nationwide protest has already been organized for May 8 asserting that the country is still too unstable to hold a credible election. The northern part of the country (Tigray region) remains in turmoil from the war; that, combined with other conflicts from ethnic and political groups has resulted in millions of people displaced throughout the nation. Please pray for wisdom, security, and peace as they approach this contentious political season. Pray that people will be drawn to God and receive lasting peace.

As we close out our 40 days of prayer, we lift a prayer of thanksgiving and ask that you do as well. We celebrate God’s marvelous plan and thank Him for His awesome grace that allows all of us to join in His kingdom work. Pray for our all-volunteer board, Jennifer, Sue, Melanie, Jim, Cynthia, Larry, Kristi, Kimberly, Patty and Alayu. Please pray for our wisdom and obedience as we continue to seek God’s direction in all our ministry efforts. Please pray for all our partners who support us through prayer and financial contributions, that God will greatly bless their love and commitment as we all join Him in sharing the gospel throughout Ethiopia. Isaiah 52:7 says, “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns.” Our Ethiopian brothers and sisters travel those mountains on the wings of your prayers. Please pray for the rural church plant at Ginchi and Pastor W. This church is west of Addis Ababa in a strongly Animist area where people worship creation rather than the Creator. Pray that the eyes of the people would be opened to see God’s Truth and the pastor and members would be led to those whose hearts are ready to hear the good news of Jesus. Pray for the new believers to turn away from their superstitions and grow in their knowledge of God and stand strong in their new faith.

Please pray for the city church plant at Bale Robe and Pastor T. It is located in the mountains of the Oromia region, south of Addis Ababa. The government gave them land where they built and are now worshipping, averaging almost 250. The church is passionate about reaching the lost in this predominantly Muslim area, even in the face of persecution. They started two satellite churches, Goba with about 55 people attending, and Asasa with 59 people attending. Please pray that God will open doors and hearts in Bale Robe and in these new areas. Pray that many will come to accept Jesus and live with the peace and hope that only comes through Him. Pray for protection for the pastor and members as they shine light into this darkness.

Please pray for the city church at Tebasse/Debre Birhan and Pastor B. It is north of Addis Ababa in the Amhara region, an area seriously impacted by the war. There are over 30,000 refugees in the city, so their ministry opportunities are great. They have been feeding them and telling them about Jesus, in spite of persecution by the government. The church members have been equipped to share the gospel and are passionate about doing so as they continue to plant new churches and also began a prison ministry. Pray that they will continue to stand strong in their faith and boldly and lovingly share the good news of Christ. Pray that the Holy Spirit will go before them and soften the hearts of the people and that many will come to know Jesus as Savior.

Please pray for the rural church plant at Bonke and Pastor I. The area is primarily Animist and has about 40 in attendance for Sunday worship. This is the area that recently had the terrible mudslides with over 107 deaths and many missing. Please pray for comfort and strength for the people and the church, and pray that God would use this tragedy to draw others to His tender care, knowing that as Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Pray that the pastor and church members would lovingly live out and proclaim the gospel so that those lost in darkness would respond and believe in Jesus.

Please pray for the rural church plant at Shishenda and Pastor M. This pastor grew up with an alcoholic father who had 2 wives and 9 children and would beat the family regularly. Pastor M longed for peace but thought it was an impossible wish until he heard the gospel and accepted Jesus. When he told his father he was now a Christian, he was beaten again but M asked the pastor who shared Christ with him to go and tell his family. Afterwards, 13 family members accepted Jesus. Pray that God would continue this good work by softening the hearts of the lost in this area so that they would listen and accept the truth of the gospel. Pray for the church to grow in their knowledge of the Lord and their love for others.
