“When Things Are Somehow Okay”
By Rev.Hiram Sanchez
There are moments in life when nothing is perfect, yet nothing is falling apart either. There’s no big miracle, no dramatic breakthrough. Just… enough. Things are holding together in ways we can’t fully explain. After seasons of chaos, a strange peace comes. After scarcity, an unexpected provision shows up. And we pause, almost confused, asking ourselves:
“Why is it okay… when it could’ve been so much worse?”
That’s God. Quietly holding us together.
The world teaches us to look for God in the fire and thunder, in the dramatic rescues and emotional highs. But the God of the Bible is just as present in the ordinary mercies of daily life.
“He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”
— Colossians 1:17
We often cry out to God in desperation — when the bills aren’t paid, when the diagnosis comes, when we feel alone or afraid. And yes, God meets us there. He hears our cries.
But when things are calm — when the fridge has food, when the kids are okay, when our heart is steady — do we still see Him?
“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.”
— Psalm 145:18
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…”
— Psalm 23:6
Sometimes, God’s greatest miracles don’t look like splitting seas.
They look like a steady job that lasts longer than expected.
A mind that stays at peace when it used to race.
A relationship that, somehow, heals.
That’s not luck. That’s grace.
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
— Lamentations 3:22–23
We must learn to recognize the sacredness of “okay.”
To thank God for the uneventful day.
To worship Him for peace that came without explanation.
To give thanks for the invisible hand that prevented what could’ve gone terribly wrong.
“Be still, and know that I am God…”
— Psalm 46:10
The truth is: God is not only present in our pain.
He’s present in our peace.
He doesn’t just meet us in our falling.
He is the reason we are still standing.
May we be people who don’t just run to God in the storm,
but walk with Him in the calm.
Who don’t just cry to Him in crisis,
but speak with Him in stillness.
Who see Him not only in the miracle,
but in the mercy.
Because every day that we wake up — held, provided for, and not destroyed —
is a testimony.
“Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of His glory with great joy…”
— Jude 1:24
He is the God of ‘somehow.’
And sometimes, somehow, okay is the most sacred place of all.
Closing Prayer
Lord,
Sometimes we come to You with tears in our eyes and a storm in our soul.
Other times, like now, we come simply to say:
Thank You.
Thank You for holding us together when we didn’t even know we were breaking.
Thank You for peace that came without warning.
For bills that got paid.
For nights we slept when we didn’t think we would.
For people who showed up just in time.
For problems that resolved in ways we can’t explain.
Forgive us for only seeking You in crisis,
and teach us to recognize You in calm.
Help us not to overlook the quiet mercies —
the "just enough" moments,
the ordinary days filled with Your extraordinary care.
Open our eyes to see Your fingerprints in the simple,
Your presence in the stillness,
Your faithfulness in the somehow.
Because You, Lord, are not just the God who delivers us from the fire —
You are the God who keeps us from burning.
You are not only our rescuer —
You are our sustainer.
So tonight, today, right now —
we don’t ask for more.
We simply pause to acknowledge what You’ve already done.
Thank You for being our steady,
our strength,
our “somehow.”
We love You.
We trust You.
We rest in You.
In the name of Jesus —
the Prince of Peace,
the Keeper of our souls —
Amen.
