To Whom It May Concern— And to Whom Hope Still Matters,
My name is Shanna. I am a woman with many titles—former business owner, public speaker, spokesperson for life, and someone who has shared her story before legislators and in national media. But beyond all of that, I am a daughter of the Most High God—and I am a survivor.
In 2012, I was sexually assaulted. That trauma shaped part of my journey, and while the world often tries to silence or erase women like me, I’ve learned that silence only deepens the wound. I am also a woman who was coerced into abortion - after already enduring the trauma of one. I live with the ache of two children, Benjamin and Grace, who are now with Jesus. My story is part of Operation Outcry.
I write this letter as both a declaration and a cry. Not just to lawmakers, not just to the church, but to anyone who still believes that truth matters, and healing is possible. We are a nation that rightly grieves the separation of families at the border. But I ask—where is the grief for the children separated from us by abortion, right here at home?
I am a taxpayer. And I say with conviction: I should not be forced to fund abortions or travel related to them. Even though my abortions were not at Planned Parenthood, I stand with the millions of women who were misled, used, and abandoned by the abortion industry. Because my experience was not “choice.” My experience was pain and death.
And yet—I rise.
I rise as a voice for my children.
I rise for every woman who sits quietly in the pew on Mother’s Day, aching to be seen.
I rise for every man who regrets the child he never got to raise.
I rise for every survivor of abuse who’s been told her voice is too messy for polite conversation.
And I rise for myself—because I remember who I am in Christ.
I am not my trauma. I am not my past. I am not discarded.
I am redeemed. I am restored. I am called.
To the church: please don’t be silent. We need your courage, your compassion, and your public recognition that healing from abortion is possible and necessary.
To legislators: listen to our stories before you legislate away our worth.
To my fellow Americans: stand for the child in the womb, and for the woman beside the crib that never was.
To myself: You have endured the fire. And still—you are here. Not just to survive, but to speak, to heal, to lead.
I am Shanna. I am a mother. I am a survivor. I am a child of God. And I will not be silenced.
With conviction and unshakable hope,
Shanna
