The Diocese of Baton Rouge is inviting young singers from across the diocese to join a new musical ministry with the formation of the Diocesan Children's Choir. Auditions will take place in the St. Joseph Cathedral Choir Room from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. September 8 through 11.

Today, we honor the beautiful truth that at the end of her earthly life, the Blessed Virgin Mary was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory. This great feast is a joyful celebration of Christ’s definitive victory over sin and death, pointing us directly to the hope of the resurrection promised to everyone who faithfully follows Him.

Mary’s Assumption stands as a beautiful reminder that our true home is in heaven. Her glorious entry into eternity encourages us to live our daily lives on earth filled with deep faith, steadfast hope, and a commitment to holiness.

📌 Even though it falls on a Saturday this year and is not a Holy Day of Obligation, it serves as a powerful call to examine our daily habits. Mary’s life encourages us to live with our eyes fixed on eternity, pursuing faith, hope, and holiness in everything we do.

As a new academic year begins, let us lift up all students, teachers, and school staff in prayer, asking the Lord to fill our classrooms with wisdom, faith, and love.

📚 Prayer to Begin a School Year ✏️

Heavenly Father,

We gather in your name to ask your blessing upon these students. As they embark on a new school year, we pray for your guidance and protection.

May their minds be open to knowledge and their hearts be filled with kindness. Help them to grow in wisdom, understanding, and compassion. Bless their teachers, families, friends, and all who support them in their journey of learning.

Grant them courage to face challenges, joy in their successes, and resilience in their struggles. May they always feel your presence, knowing that they are loved and cherished by you.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

⛰️ Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration!

On a high mountain, Jesus revealed His divine glory to Peter, James, and John. His face shone like the sun, His clothes became dazzling white, and the Father’s voice declared: "This is my beloved Son... listen to Him." (Matthew 17:5)

This powerful moment strengthened the apostles for the road ahead, showing them that the glory of the Resurrection would come through the Cross. It’s a beautiful reminder for us today: we are called to be transformed by God’s grace and to place our complete trust in Him, even during life’s greatest trials.

Her heart symbolizes holiness, total trust in God, and fidelity to Christ. While we adore the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we venerate Mary’s heart as the seat of her profound love and virtue. This devotion invites us to imitate her humility, faith, and obedience. Throughout August, let us entrust our families to Mary’s care, asking her to help us treasure God’s Word and say "yes" to His will each day.
