Fr. Alec's letter for the June 7th bulletin.
My dear sisters and brothers,
Four of my five previous summers with you, I spent a month or more out of state, working on my certification as a spiritual director through Creighton University. While I may take a one-week course in July, I will not be taking a four-week course this year, or directing anyone on retreat (as I did before my course last summer).
On Thursday, the Catholic bishops of the U.S. will consecrate the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, as part of the celebration of our country’s 250th birthday. Due to a medical procedure I will have on Thursday, our parish celebration of our country’s consecration will be on Friday at 6 p.m.
Families with children enrolled in the summer religious education program at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Pierre Part, please remember that it will run from tomorrow through June 19th. See the St. Joseph website for details.
Also, work has begun on a history of St. Joseph the Worker Parish. They are asking for photos of the old church, the current church prior to remodeling, old hall, and Belle River Chapel. Photos of both the insides and the outsides of these buildings are being sought, as well as other photographs that may be of interest. Names of any people and places pictured would be appreciated, as well as approximate dates. (Any photos shared will be returned.) For more information, contact the St. Joseph the Worker staff at 985-252-6008.
Long-anticipated work on St. John the Evangelist Church in Plaquemine will begin on Monday the 15th. While this work is proceeding on their parish church, daily masses will be celebrated in their parish hall, and Sunday masses, funerals, and baptisms will be celebrated at St. Clement of Rome in Plaquemine. According to a letter from their administrator, Fr. Martin Lawrence, they hope to resume using St. John Church about August 10th.
Finally, a belated Happy Birthday to Bishop Michael Duca (who turned 74 this past Friday). “Ad multos annos!”
Love,
Fr. Alec
