Week 1 of classes is officially in the books for the seminarians of our Diocese!

5 seminarians are studying at Mount Angel Seminary in St. Benedict, Oregon.

12 seminarians are studying at St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park, CA.

Please keep them in your prayers as they continue their discernment in this new academic year.

The priesthood is a calling.

Christ asks of some men the sacrifice of their lives in following him as his more intimate companions. From all eternity, certain men are called to the priesthood. It is a call inscribed in their nature and because of this, is a call that will bring them fulfillment.

If I go to seminary does that mean I’m going to become a priest? If I enter a religious order, will I automatically become a nun for life?

No. This is time for further discernment. If you go to the convent and then start to feel unpeaceful, or think you want to date after all, you can leave. Simple as that. Same with seminary.

(By the way, most people, even if they leave, are very grateful for their time in formation. It’ll make you a better Catholic for the rest of your life!)
