St. Ignatius Loyola Parish

St. Ignatius Loyola Parish A Jesuit parish uniting hearts and minds in the Spirit of Jesus Christ. St. Ignatius Loyola Parish is the only Jesuit Parish in the Diocese of Sacramento.

We are committed to “finding God in all things.” We believe that St. Ignatius was both naming a grace and issuing a challenge when he said that “Love expresses itself more in actions than in words.” We believe that God is found most often in the ordinary, day-to-day living of our life. Although we sometimes struggle to live up to our catholic identity, we believe that we are inclusive rather than

exclusive, a “both/and” rather than an “either/or” community. That is why all will find a place in our faith family, for like the Jesuits themselves, “we are sinners yet called to be companions of Jesus in mission.” As Leonard Cohen reminds us in his song Anthem, “There’s a crack in everything—that’s how the light gets in.”

The spirit that animates us in our worship, our social outreach, our catechetical instruction, our young adult ministry, our friend-raising and fund-raising events, is summed up in the 25th chapter of Matthew’s gospel when Jesus articulates what love-in-action will look like—“feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, welcoming the stranger, visiting the sick or in prison, comforting the sorrowful and burying the dead.”

If you are looking for a community that will help you nurture and express your faith, we would welcome your presence, your involvement, and your commitment to join us in building up God’s kingdom here on earth.

Our St. Vincent de Paul Society will be taking up their 5th Sunday Collection this weekend (Saturday, May 30th and Sunday, May 31st) to help neighbors in need with rent, utilities, gas assistance and other items. Due to inflation, it has been a particularly difficult time for many. To give online visit: https://onrealm.org/StIgnatiusLoyol/-/form/give/SVDP

Fr. Matthew Yim, SJ, of Jesuits West, recently reflected on community and prayer in an interview with the Hawaii Catholic Herald:

One daily practice that continues to ground me is the Ignatian Examen. For me, the Examen is ultimately a prayer of gratitude. At the end of each day, I look back, notice at least one thing for which I am grateful, and thank God for it.

Sometimes I also recognize moments where I fell short or acted in ways that drew me away from God. Then I simply pray, “Tomorrow, God, help me do better.”

Congrats to the St. Ignatius Parish School Class of 2026!

Today we celebrate the St. Ignatius School Class of 2026 — our “Bridge Builders.”

In his homily, Father Tom reminded our graduates to live the Ignatian virtues of being loving, religious, open to growth, intellectually competent, and committed to doing justice with open ears, open eyes, open minds, open hands, and open hearts.

As poet Mary Oliver wrote:
“Instructions for living a life:
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.”

May our graduates go forth paying attention to the needs of the world around them, remaining astonished by God’s goodness, and telling the story of hope, justice, compassion, and faith through the lives they lead.

Go forth and set the world on fire! Congratulations, graduates!

The first week in May was Teacher Appreciation Week, and we at St. Ignatius Parish are grateful for the dedicated teachers and staff who serve our parish school community each day.

The first photo captures a Teacher Appreciation lunch hosted by the school Parent Club. We also enjoyed seeing some joyful moments around campus — including P.E. teacher Dan with his new puppy and school secretary Carol training as a new Parish Xavier Minister.

Thank you to our teachers and staff for inspiring our students through your daily witness, care, and commitment. AMDG.
