National Donut Day is almost here!

This Friday, we’re teaming up with “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro, owner of Carlo’s Bakery at Mall of America, to spread joy in the Twin Cities by honoring veterans and first responders. Through donut distributions and acts of gratitude, we’re recognizing the service and sacrifice that inspired The Salvation Army to start National Donut Day nearly 90 years ago.

National Donut Day is coming on Friday, June 5! The Salvation Army started this tasty observance almost 90 years ago to commemorate the work of “Donut Lassies”—female Salvation Army volunteers who served American soldiers battling on the frontlines of World War I. Today, we celebrate National Donut Day to recognize first responders and veterans for their service to our country and local communities. After several days of service, The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) volunteers remain on call to support teams searching for a vulnerable missing 53-year-old male in the Eagan area.

EDS spent much of last week providing daily hot meals and hydration for an estimated 75 search and rescue personnel, including first responders and volunteers involved in the operation.

Our prayers are with the family and those assisting in the ongoing search.

National Donut Day is almost here! This Friday, June 5, we celebrate a tradition that began with The Salvation Army’s "Donut Lassies," who served fresh donuts and encouragement to American troops on the frontlines during World War I.
Nearly 90 years later, National Donut Day continues as a way to honor veterans and first responders whose service strengthens our communities every day.

When communities invest in trusted solutions, lives are changed.

A recent KSTP story highlighted the importance of accountability and measurable results in housing and shelter programs. At The Salvation Army, we're committed to being good stewards of every dollar entrusted to us to help individuals and families move from crisis to stability.

With the support of our community, donors, and partners, The Salvation Army is working to provide hope, housing, and a path forward for our neighbors in need.

The Hennepin County Commission is considering extending a program to reduce homelessness, both for those who are experiencing it for the first time and those who’ve been in a shelter before.
