Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord

Costly Love
Holy Week is all about love! It is the hard, costly, difficult love that sustains relationships by seeking the good of the persons even when it hurts. The Hebrew Scriptures refer to it as hesed the faithful love that God shows for us, especially as covenant partners. This week we see how Jesus chooses fidelity to God’s ways, which costs him his life. Then God chooses fidelity to Jesus by giving him new life after death. The resurrection is the pledge of God’s faithful love, revealing in light that not even death can break our relationship with God. Jesus’ paschal (Passover) journey through death to new life and light is the key to what lies in store for each of us.
