This week, we remember women of faith, courageous witnesses, and leaders who helped shape the life of the Church—from Hannah More and Kassiani to the Martyrs of Memphis, Alexander Crummell, and John Henry Hobart.

Their lives remind us that faith takes many forms: in prayer, in service, in courage, and in the work of building up Christ’s Church.

May their witness inspire us to live our own faith boldly and faithfully.

Fed by Word and Sacrament, we go forth in peace.

This Labor Day, we give thanks for the work of our hands, minds, and hearts—and for all whose labor helps our communities flourish.

May we also remember those seeking fair wages, safe workplaces, meaningful work, and the dignity every worker deserves.

Labor Day has its roots in the American labor movement of the late 19th century, when workers organized for better wages, safer workplaces, and reasonable hours. On September 5, 1882, thousands of workers marched through New York City in what is widely recognized as the nation’s first Labor Day parade, helping begin a tradition that became a federal holiday in 1894.

May God bless the work we do and the people who do it.

📚 Beginning the School Year with Prayer

This week, we celebrated the official start of the school year with our annual Convocation Eucharist. Students helped lead the service alongside Father Tim and Father Angel, as our school community gathered for prayer, Communion, and blessings for the year ahead.

We are grateful to begin this new school year together and especially thankful for the opportunity to hold chapel services in our beautiful worship space.

May this year be filled with learning, growth, friendship, and many blessings for our students, teachers, staff, and families.

🍲 Food Managers Needed!

Christ Episcopal Church is launching a Saturday hot meal program to serve friends and neighbors experiencing food insecurity — and we need volunteer Food Managers to help make it happen!

As a Food Manager, you’ll:

💻 Complete a short online course
📋 Obtain a Maryland Food Service License
🥘 Be present during food preparation in our church kitchen
📅 Serve about one Saturday morning per month

❤️ Why volunteer? You’ll play an important role in helping provide warm meals to our neighbors. Plus, earning a Food Manager license can open doors to paid opportunities in restaurants, catering, and other food service settings.

Celebrate Labor Day weekend with the CEC Grounds Committee and help give our church gardens a little care! Join us for a morning of w**ding, tending flower beds, fellowship, and fresh air around the Christ Episcopal Church grounds.
