What Can the Righteous Do? Are you familiar with the term “doomscrolling”? This is what happens when you are on a screen (like your phone or tablet) and you repeatedly swipe through headline after headline or social media post after post. We’re just beginning to realize the negative psychological and spiritual impact of mindlessly absorbing bad news in big batches - especially on the young.
The world has been broken since the fall of humanity in the Garden of Eden near the dawn of time. David did not live in an era of 24/7 news cycles and the perpetual “connection” of the internet, BUT he did have those around him that wanted him to share their despair over the evil present in their time. Keep in mind, this was about 3,000 years ago!
How we respond to the sin and evil around us says a lot about who we are and who we believe in. As we begin our second Summer in the Psalms series, we pick up with Psalm 11 where David shows us a better way to face the darkness of the world around us. Will there be times of discouragement? Yes. Our new life in Christ can encourage us to walk in faith knowing that God is STILL on His throne and that His justice will be done.

This year our VBS theme is “ Illumination Station”. It’s going to be the brightest week of the year! While many people claim to know about Jesus, many are in the dark about who He really is. During VBS kids will explore all the ways light brightens, illuminates, reflects, and reveals.

The Persistence | Acts 5:12-32 | June 7, 2026
Summary:
One of the enduring themes of the book of Acts is that the Gospel will continue to spread unhindered until the end of time. As the young church continued to grow, she faced persistent persecution. Repeated arrests had begun and soon some who followed Christ would give their lives for His Gospel. This is a cycle that has followed the Gospel wherever it goes.
This Sunday, we will celebrate with the high school graduates of our church’s youth ministry and honor their persistence to reach this milestone in their lives. Of course, we will give God the glory and the praise for His faithfulness in their lives. In both our time of recognition and prayer for the graduates AND our message from God's Word, persistence is the theme.
We are saved by God’s grace through faith in God’s Son, Jesus. Once we answer the call to repent and trust in Him, we are called to a life of persistence in that Gospel until we are called home to be with the Lord. Along the way, we will find that God’s sovereign power will never be outlasted by those who oppose Him or His people.

The Possession | Acts 4:32-5:11
This Sunday’s passage starts out great. The Church had become a spiritual utopia experiencing a level of community not known to fallen humanity. No one within the Church had any unmet material needs and those with the means gave cheerfully and sacrificially to keep it that way. But then…
A husband and wife did something that directly undermined the unity and unselfishness that had come to characterize the Church. Peter says that in their effort to deceive people they have really lied to God. First the husband drops dead in church and then the wife drops dead just a few hours later.
Why did this happen? What is this story supposed to teach us? We will look at three lessons we should take away from these events. “All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16, CSB) Let’s equip ourselves to live out our calling as the people of God by paying attention to what God has to say through this account.
