IFFP - Interfaith Families Project

IFFP - Interfaith Families Project The core value of IFFP is respect – for each other, for Judaism and for Christianity. IFFP offers many programs to meet the varied needs of interfaith families.

The Interfaith Families Project of the Greater Washington, DC area is an independent community of interfaith families and others committed to sharing, learning about, and celebrating our Jewish and Christian traditions. Founded by four “founding moms” in 1995, the Interfaith Families Project has grown into a vibrant, active community of approximately 300 adults and children, one of the largest int

erfaith programs in the country. As a community, we celebrate, explore, question and enjoy both religious traditions equally. IFFP members neither reject our religious backgrounds nor seek a new religion that is a mixture of Christian and Jewish belief. Instead, we believe it is possible – and desirable – to honor our distinct religious traditions and to share those traditions with spouses, partners and children. Our community includes those who continue to practice a faith, and those who do not. Many IFFP parents have chosen not to select one religion for their children, but rather to instill in them an appreciation and understanding of both heritages. Other IFFP parents have chosen one religion for their children but want them to gain knowledge about both of their cultural heritages. Our community provides us with a sense of connection and support that is a valuable part of our experience as interfaith families. Our children form lasting relationships with children whose families are similar to their own. We adults care for each other, provoke and challenge each other, resource and inspire each other, and find many opportunities to laugh together. We have a weekly program on Sunday, which includes a gathering, Sunday school, and an adult group discussion. Throughout the year we sponsor special events such as High Holy Day services and a women's retreat, couples' workshops, and community service opportunities for members of all ages.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for our special Hybrid Gathering, Sunday School, and Continuing Ed! 💛

From honoring the Golden Rule in action to celebrating the incredible volunteers who keep the IFFP community thriving, it was a beautiful reminder of how we can build a kinder world together—step by step.

We also loved diving deep into Psalm 23 during Continuing Education. A huge thank you to Brad Boekeloo for sharing his moving reflection, and to Reverend Sam for guiding us through activities that helped us connect with this timeless text in a fresh, meaningful way.

See you next Sunday for our last Gathering of the year!

The unknown isn't something to fear—it's the only place a miracle can happen.

In her latest blog post, "Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Best," IFFP's Rabbi Debbie Reichmann challenges the adage "prepare for the worst." When we constantly brace for heartbreak, we start our journeys under a cloud of worry. What happens if we reframe uncertainty as a holy space full of possibility instead?

Borrowing from the Jewish concept of Bechirah (choice), Rabbi Debbie reminds us that we are writing our own scripts in real-time. Yes, pack the umbrella—but don't let your preparations become a cage.

From the archives: With beginning, we are revisiting this powerful piece Rabbi Debbie Reichmann wrote last year - Shavuot: A Vision of Shared Prosperity. 🌾

Rabbi Debbie dives into the deeper meaning of the holiday, showing how ancient harvest laws were actually a blueprint for a just, compassionate community. By leaving the corners of the fields for the vulnerable, prosperity becomes something shared by all.
Her reminder hits just as home today as it did last year: "Being good is not optional—it’s essential."
