For as many times as I've personally recommended this book to others, I cannot believe I have not yet given a public review of it! Truly, this is one of the most helpful and impactful books I have ever read. We as believers must understand Christ's heart towards us if we are ever going to fully rest in Him. If you have not read this, find it online and get it. I guarantee you will be blessed!

Regarding my Christian life, I have often made statements like this: "If only I could be more consistent in. . . .xyz." The Lord has been teaching me that this is a wrong focus. The truth of the matter is, we will never be as consistent as we want to be. We will always feel like we need to read more, pray more, witness more, give more, etc. When we focus on these externals, we surely invite despair into our lives because we know we just don't do as much as we should.

The battle in the Christian life is not our consistency, but it is our faith. Will we look everyday to Jesus, the only consistent One who measures up for us in every area? I'm not saying that we shouldn't grow in our Christian walk, but growth is not measured by our 'good days' or 'bad days'; true Christian growth is growing up into Him (Eph.4:15). It is more and more resting in Jesus, the truly consistent and sufficient One. Focusing upon my consistency is a sure way to bring defeat and discouragement, but focusing on Jesus (the life of faith) is what brings true victory, peace, and joy.
