Sunday we continued our deeper dive into the book of Ephesians chapters 5 &6. These chapters, namely Ephesians 5:22-33 - 6:1-9, are often a misunderstood and then misused portion of scripture.

First and foremost, the Bible communicates we’re all broken. As a result, Christ must oversee us before we can effectively oversee others. We must yield ourselves to Him daily to be effective in our oversight and care for others. Trying to accomplish this apart from that results in an authoritarian hand, absent grace and mercy. It allows for a twisted view of these scriptures that feeds our flesh rather than serves our spouses, children, employees, and colleagues.

By contrast when we come under the umbrella of Christ, that covering not only protects ourselves, but everyone else under it with us. Being under this umbrella doesn’t mean we are perfect. Nonetheless, a yielded heart to the Lord is a workable, changeable, and effective believer. As we let Christ saturate our lives, others will see and benefit from the fruit.

Sometimes we think to be unified means to look the same, speak the same, and act the same. This is in deep conflict with scripture. The work of Christ took people from all walks of life; different socioeconomic, educational, cultural, and ethnic statuses and made them the church. What a gift that we are NOT all the same!

On Sunday, Pastor Cody looked deeper into this very thought continuing our exploration of Ephesians.

“There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all. However, He has given each one of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭5‬-‭7‬ ‭

We are all one in Christ, but that oneness doesn’t erase our uniqueness. He has blessed us each with gifts and we should in fact be encouraged to develop and use them. Furthermore God is His divine ability, utilizes our gifts to further the Kingdom of God as we yield to His plan.
