Text: John 13:34
“A new commandment I give to you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”**

Devotion: Love as Jesus Loves
Jesus defines love by His example**
Many people think love means “I care about you when it’s convenient.”

Jesus’ command is different: love like He has loved you—not selectively, not conditionally.
Love is meant to be recognizable**

Jesus doesn’t just command love privately; He teaches that the world should be able to see it.
Love becomes evidence that His disciples belong to Him.

Love is “new” in its standard**
The call to love existed before (God’s people were taught to love).

But Jesus makes it new in the way it is measured: by the way He loves—self-giving, sacrificial, forgiving.

What “As I have loved you” looks like
Sacrificial**
Jesus loves with commitment, even when it costs Him.
Servant-hearted**
Love is not only a feeling; it moves toward service and humility.
Faithful**
He remains loving through misunderstanding, weakness, and failure.

Practice: How to obey John 13:34 today
Choose a specific person to love on purpose**
Not “eventually,” not “if they change,” but now.
Do one “Jesus-style” act**
Speak kindly, bear patiently, help quietly, or pray for that person.
Love even when you don’t feel like it**
Jesus’ love is not only emotion—it’s a willful decision shaped by His example.
Correct privately, encourage publicly (wisdom + love)**

Lord Jesus,
You commanded me to love one another as You have loved me.

Lord, I thank You because You are the Keeper of my life.
