This Overdose Awareness Day, our CHFS team keeps in our hearts those we've lost to overdose and their families, and we stand with Kentucky families who are struggling with addiction. As Gov. Beshear says, "One life lost to overdose is one too many." We're grateful to our many partners across Kentucky who work each day to prevent overdose deaths.

Recapping our 3rd annual Families Fighting Fentanyl event:

💜🦋 Remembering. Educating. Preventing. Saving Lives. 🦋💗

Today, on National Overdose Awareness Day, we pause to remember the lives that have been lost, the families forever changed, and the communities continuing to fight for awareness and prevention.

This year, we were honored to gather together for our 3rd Annual Families Fighting Fentanyl event in memory of my beautiful daughter, Brighton. 💜

Brighton was so much more than the way her life ended. She was a daughter, a light, a little girl who loved reading, painting, creating art, and simply being a kid. Her life mattered. Her story matters. And her life is the reason Bright Light Foundation exists today.

Every year, we are grateful for the opportunity to bring our community together—not only to remember, but to laugh, smile, play, connect, and create memories. Because even in the middle of something so heavy, there is still room for joy. 🦋

But our gathering has a greater purpose.

We come together to educate our community about fentanyl poisoning, the dangers of illicit fentanyl, and the importance of knowing the facts, recognizing the risks, carrying Narcan, and having conversations that can ultimately save a life.

We want people to understand why Bright Light Foundation exists.

We exist because Brighton’s life was valuable.

We exist because families deserve education before tragedy happens.

We exist because no parent should have to learn about fentanyl the way I did—after losing their child.

And we exist because prevention starts with awareness.

Three years ago, I never imagined that my daughter’s life would become a mission. But I will spend the rest of mine making sure Brighton’s light continues to shine.

💜 Her life is more than her death.
💗 Her story is more than her poisoning.
🦋 Her legacy is saving lives.

To every family who joined us, every volunteer, sponsor, partner, speaker, educator, and community member who continues to stand with us—thank you.

Thank you for remembering Brighton.
Thank you for standing with families.
Thank you for choosing education over silence.
Thank you for helping us turn grief into purpose.

Brighton’s light continues to shine—and together, we can make sure it reaches someone before it’s too late. 🦋💜

Say their names!!

Remember why this organization exists!!

First and foremost God.. he is the one giving us the courage, strength, and grace to fight against this epidemic.

But also.. this organization exists because our dearest Brighton, 4 years young lost her life on 2/26/23 to fentanyl poisoning exposure at a home in Lexington KY.

Say her name.
Say all of their names.

STOP THE STIGMA!!!

Never forgotten!! 💜🦋

Too young. Too soon. These are a just a few faces taken by fentanyl!

Remember them! Say their names! They were here. They lived. And we will never understand why. But we will continue to bring awareness, education, and prevention to the entire world!!
