Shalom United Church of Christ

Shalom United Church of Christ We are an open and affirming church. No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome!

The Spirit of Shalom

Progressive Christianity
While valuing ancient creeds that have contributed to the long history of the Church, we are nonetheless open to the discoveries of modern scholarship, science and archeology. What about the Bible
We at Shalom take the Bible seriously, but not always literally. The Bible is open to interpretation, scholarly exposition and discerning the social, geogra

phical, political, economic and religious context of its writers. Is it record of the mortals’ search for God and their purpose to those discoveries. Our Purpose
To understand the kind of love and justice practiced by Jesus and the prophets and to give expressions to those understandings, individually and collectively through the congregation. Peace with Justice
As a congregation we are unequivocally committed to promoting peace and justice in the world, realizing that a real and lasting peace does not come without the pursuit of justice. Open and Affirming
We are welcoming to all who want to be here. We encourage moving beyond a visit to intentional commitment. The Importance of Community
As members of our faith community we seek to create a family where all are welcome and feel safe, where open inquiry is encouraged, dialogue is valued and practiced, and where thoughtful compassion is cultivated and expressed. Active listening and honest sharing are basic to such dialogue, as is a willingness to listen to minority opinions and reach consensus. Interfaith Involvement
Shalom values the great religions of the world and seeks to understand the differences and point of commonality. Shalom meets regularly with the Jewish, Muslim and other faith communities in the Tri-Cities for the sake of better understanding and for the pursuit of initiatives that are in our common interests. Ecumenical Participation
Shalom church is involved ecumenically with several Tri-Cities Christian congregations. Partaking of Communion
All are welcome to Participate. We have an “open table’ because it is not our table, but Christ’s table. No matter where you are on life’s spiritual journey, you are welcome at Shalom

Repercussions of climate change are pushing Mother Earth’s weather systems to the edge, and as a result, stressing families around the globe. We all need to do our part to reduce the impact. This sign will be posted throughout April on Shalom’s front yard. It’s part of Shalom’s effort to inspire our congregation, grab attention, and bring new people through our doors.

👑🚫 NO KINGS – March 28 in Kennewick
📅 Saturday, March 28
📍 Columbia Center Blvd, Kennewick
⏰ 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
In this country, we do not answer to kings
On March 28, we are coming together again.
As families are being attacked and everyday costs are pushing people to the brink, silence is not an option. We will defend ourselves and our neighbors against this administration’s unjust and cruel violence. America is not for strongmen, greedy billionaires, or fear-based rule. America belongs to the people. ✊
Join Indivisible Tri-Cities for a bold, peaceful, family-friendly action grounded in community care and people power. No thrones. No crowns. No kings. 🗽✊
A core principle behind all Indivisible Tri-Cities events is a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience. Participants are expected to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at all times. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events. All events are held in public spaces or on public property. We recognize that everyone’s situation is different, and participants are encouraged to use their best judgment and take part in ways that feel safe and appropriate for them.
🤝 Bring your voice. Bring a friend.
🥫🧥🧣 If you are able, please bring a non-perishable food item, clothing, or a blanket to share with neighbors in need.

Will you be there?

This Saturday, people across the country will gather for No Kings events to stand for democracy, dignity, and justice. As part of our A.C.T OUT initiative (Advocacy, Community, Transformation), the Open and Affirming Coalition is encouraging our supporters to show up as a public witness.

We’ve created 5 free signs (liyou can download and print (both full-ink and low-ink versions).

Bring one with you and stand with others who believe faith calls us to defend the dignity of all people.

Visit this link to read the article from Rev. Derek Terry, our Acting Executive Director, learn more about the No Kings events, download the signs, and sign up to let us know you’re participating so we can capture stories and measure our collective impact:
