Today is God's Work Our Hands Sunday where we join Lutherans across the United States for a day of service.

We’ll begin with a short worship service and then assemble care kits for children at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and write cards of love and encouragement for seniors at the Redwood City Senior Center.

of days and seasons,
renewal and growth,

God of peace and mercy,

On this September 11, we pause to remember.

We remember those whose lives were lost, those who were injured, and the families and friends whose lives were forever changed. We remember the first responders and ordinary people who ran toward danger to help strangers. We remember the fear, confusion, and grief of that day, and the wounds that remain even after so many years.

God, in a world still marked by violence, division, and fear, make us people of peace. When hatred seeks to divide us, teach us to love. When fear makes us suspicious of one another, help us see our neighbor. When the world tells us to seek revenge, lead us instead toward justice, reconciliation, and peace.

Comfort all who carry grief from September 11. Be near to those who continue to bear its physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds. And guide us as we work for a world where violence does not have the final word.

In the name of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, we pray.

Amen.

Gracious God, on this Labor Day, we give thanks for the work of our hands and the many ways we serve one another.

Bless all who labor, those seeking work, those who are weary, and those whose work often goes unseen.

Help us at Messiah to honor the dignity of every worker, seek justice for our neighbors, and remember that our worth comes not from what we accomplish, but from your endless love and grace. Amen.
