Redding First United Methodist Church

Redding First United Methodist Church First Church is a progressive, local congregation of the United Methodist Church in Downtown Redding

Here at First Church, we believe the reach of God’s love is wider than our imaginations can fathom and without bounds...

That truly, “nothing can separate us from the love of God” (paraphrased Romans 8:38-39). Therefore we strive, as much as possible given our own imperfections, to put LOVE first. We love you regardless of your family structure, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, eco

nomic status, race, age, education, health, abilities, political views or spirituality. We welcome you to come worship and explore this great love of God together with us, and to work beside us to grow into disciples of Christ, for the transformation of the world.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
— Hebrews 13:8

My friends,

As we say thank you to Pastor Charles and prepare to welcome Pastor April, we remember that while leaders change, Christ remains the same. We give thanks for faithful ministry in the past and look forward with hope to what God will do next.

💔 Our hearts are heavy this morning as we learn of yesterday's attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego - ICSD, where three people were killed, including a security guard whose courageous actions saved many lives. Children were at school on those grounds. Families were gathered in a place meant for prayer, learning, and community.
We grieve with our Muslim neighbors. We grieve for the families of those who were killed. We grieve for the children who ran for their lives, and for a community now carrying wounds that will not quickly heal.
🕊️ We stand in solidarity with the Islamic Center of San Diego and with Muslim communities across our state and nation. A house of worship – any house of worship – should be a place of safety, welcome, and peace. When hatred takes aim at one faith community, it wounds us all.
🙏 Please join us in prayer:

✝️ For the families of the three who were killed, that they would know God's nearness in their unbearable loss.

🧒 For the children who witnessed violence at their school, that they would find healing and feel safe again.

🕌 For Imam Taha Hassane and the leaders of the Islamic Center, that they would be strengthened as they shepherd their community through grief.

🤝 For our Muslim siblings everywhere who are afraid today, that they would feel the love and support of neighbors of every faith.

❤️ And for our nation, that we would have the courage to confront the hatred in our midst and choose, again and again, the harder and holier path of love.
📖 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." – Matthew 5:9
