The middle portion of the letter addresses many difficult topics: rule-following, cultural influence and fads, the appeal and nostalgia of our old selves, and the bad habits and lies we cling to. In response to these things, we've given language such as, live life in Christ, be rooted and built up in him, put on love, and clothe yourself in virtues. These are good, true, and beautiful words, but if they remain conceptual and not concrete, they like the difficult topics, will lack any value in restraining sinful desires. So, Paul gives us this formula: Set, Let, and Be Thankful.

Colossians 3:1-17

Below is the plan for April and May. We will do a summer sermon series through the Books of Colossians and Philemon, entitled "Christ in You, the Hope of Glory." The series will run until July. In June and July, Pastor Andre and I both have youth events at camp, and in Colorado, we will run a youth Sunday, and our missionary friends, the Fowlers, are visiting. So, the schedule for June and July still needs a little sorting out, but I will have it to you soon. Pastor Andre will be preaching a series through the book of James in August. He will fill you in on the information once he has it finished.

Colossians 2:6-23

This portion of Colossians sounds like a passage from a whodunit mystery novel or a tale of a pirate’s buried treasure. Paul speaks of contending and even rejoicing in great labor and suffering for the sake of this mystery of glorious riches! Hidden for ages and generations and now revealed to the Gentiles: The Mystery is Christ in Us! The Hope of Glory! This language should change the way we see living in Christ this side of the grave. It’s not a countdown to heaven; we are living in the glorious riches now, we have Christ in us!
