Bishop Connie Mitchell Shelton encourages us to use our voices to love our neighbor through voting. Local elections are a powerful tool to directly impact our local neighbors. If you live in Raleigh, you will have an Affordable Housing Bond on the ballot. It’s very important to know that this bond will not increase property taxes. It will support affordable housing development and preservation, project re-development, homelessness response, and homebuyer assistance and preservation for seniors including Raleigh’s Downpayment Assistance Program.
You will also see a proposed property tax amendment on your ballot. While this seems like a positive, its passage would deprive communities of vital funds for services such as emergency response, public school teacher salaries, and affordable housing initiatives.
Please make a plan to vote. Early voting is from 10/15-10/31, and election Day is Nov 3. To see early voting sites and polling places, visit here.
