Narragansett Council Jewish Committee on Scouting The Narragansett Council Jewish Committee on Scouting is a standing committee within the Narragansett Council, BSA.

The Jewish Committee on Scouting's mission is to promote Jewish values in Scouting, promote Scouting within the Jewish Community and provide for the Jewish Chaplaincy and Jewish Chapel at Camp Yawgoog. The primary objectives of the Committee are:

1. To be a resource for units in the Council to ensure all members of Jewish faith are able to fully participate.

2. To over see the Jewish Chaplaincy

Program at Yawgoog Scout Reservation, and the Temple of the Ten Commandments and Chaplain's cabin at the camp.

3. To organize/sponsor events of interest (Scout Shabbat and Jewish Religious Awards College.

4. In collaboration with the Council staff, identify, develop and establish units chartered at Jewish Institutions within the Council's service area.

Celebrate a Century of Jewish Scouting at Scout Shabbat!
This year’s Scout Shabbat is more than a tradition—it's a milestone! Join us as we recognize 100 years of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting with a warm and welcoming community gathering.
Hosted in partnership with Temple Habonim, this special evening includes an uplifting service led by Rabbi Howard Voss-Altman, featuring music and prayers in English and Hebrew. Bring the whole family for an hour of connection, reflection, and celebration!
Stay afterward for Oneg—treats, snacks, and community time.
Scouts & Scouters—come in full uniform and receive a FREE commemorative patch!

On January 24, 1908, the Boy Scout movement began in England with the publication of the first installment of Robert Baden-Powell’s Scouting for Boys. The name Baden-Powell was already well known to many English boys, and thousands eagerly bought up the handbook. By the end of April, the serialization of Scouting for Boys was completed, and scores of impromptu Boy Scout troops had sprung up across Britain.
