Since 1859 the Church of the Redeemer has been a spiritual home for Episcopalians on Providence's Eastside. Founded as the first parish in the Diocese of Rhode Island with free pews (no pew rent), the parish continues to practice Christian welcome to all people. Grant, O God, that we may follow the example of thy faithful servant Barnabas, who, seeking not his own renown but the well-being of thy Church, gave generously of his life and substance for the relief of the poor and the spread of the Gospel; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
