Vacation Bible School wrapped up last week and, boy, do we have something to celebrate! 5 children decided to make personal commitments of faith for the very first time. 13 children decided to reaffirm their faith as well. We ask that you pray for these 18 children as they begin, and continue, their faith journey!

At Wightman, our mission is to be disciples who make disciples. Thank you to everyone who helped us live out this mission at Vacation Bible School. We are already excited for next year!

REGISTRATION IS STILL OPEN! Online registration has closed for our VBS, but don’t let that stop you from coming! Come a few minutes early on Sunday and register your child for Vacation Bible School. We’ve been praying for them and are so excited to learn, worship, and have fun with them at Vacation Bible School!

In our “Set Free” series, we’ve been exploring ways God sets us free from our sin and for a mission. On Sunday, we saw how God sets us free by calling us away from a place of security.

God called Abram to leave behind his country (livelihood and roots), people (support and future care), and his father’s home (inheritance). But God’s call on Abrams life did not stop with abandoning his security. God made promises to Abram, that should he obey then… “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing… all the peoples on earth will be blessed though you… Genesis 12:2-3.

When we are stuck holding on to our baggage, we cannot answer God’s call on our lives. Fear tells us that we can’t do it. Nostalgia constantly reminds us of what it was like in the good ole days. Logic may scream that this is risky and not worth it… Whatever it is, leave it behind today. God can transform you from barrenness to blessing.

This week, Pastor Gryff continued our sermon series “Set Free” where we’re diving into the idea that God sets us free from sins and for mission.

On Sunday we studied the creation story in Genesis. We were reminded that God made humans in His image! In today’s world, we are convinced that self-invention, or our accomplishments, relationships, and careers define us. Scripture tells us differently. Scripture says we are defined by God. Along the way, we lost sight of this and decided to define ourselves. So now, instead of pursuing a relationship with God, we chase other relationships to help us feel good. Instead of stewarding creation, we abuse it and exploit it. Instead of reflecting God’s love into the world, we turn inward and simply love ourselves.

Pastor Gryff challenged us to take a sticky note and write a simple reminder on it… “It’s About God.” The God who created the world, now seeks to redeem it from its brokenness. The God who designs us, now seeks to redesign us from our fallen nature through Jesus Christ. He was the perfect image of God sent to restore our broken image. When we realize we’re not the main character, we find freedom.

The One who designed you defines you.
