Lift up your praises and leave your burdens at his feet my friends because GOD is always listening.

This is very sad news. Chief Deputy Howle was a very kind man and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to our friends with the Darlington County Sheriff's Office for their loss.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sheriff Michael August
Date: 10/16/2026

It is with heavy hearts that the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Michael August announce the passing of Chief Deputy Clifton J. Howle.

Chief Howle was a good man, with a kind heart who treated others with kindness and respect. His genuine nature, warm personality, and ability to bring a smile to those around him made him truly special. Chief was more than a colleague and a leader; he was someone we cared about deeply, and his loss will be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

Clifton Howle started his career in law enforcement in 1993 working at South Carolina Probation Pardon and Parole (PPP). Through his career at PPP, he held several positions and worked his way up from Agent in Charge to Assistant Deputy Director for field operations. After retiring from PPP in 2022, Clifton took on a new role as a Municipal Judge in the town of Mcbee and Jefferson. In 2025, Clifton came with Sheriff Michael August’s administration as Chief Deputy.

It was truly an honor to have worked alongside him and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues. At this time, we ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this tremendous loss.

Once arrangements have been made by Chief Howle’s family, we will follow up with more information.

Have you ever asked, what can I do to support the public safety community? Well, the simple answer is pray. Our law enforcement and public safety community needs your prayers and support.

Psalm 103:1 (KJV)
Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

I’ve got Jesus on my mind all the time. Amen 🙌🏻

1 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV)
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Friends, if you think that the world is different and is falling apart you’re not alone. Stupidity is running rampant everywhere because there is an obvious separation and falling away from GOD.

Joshua 1:9 (KJV)
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

We don’t say it as often as we should, but we greatly appreciate the labor of our brave men and women of our fire services.

The Plan

Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

GOD has a plan for each and every one of us and all we need to do is stick with it.

GODs plan is simple, love and serve him and you will find peace. It might not be easy, but he never said that it would be. Just remember to stick with his plan and not yours and it will always work out just right.

Matthew 5:9 (KJV)
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Keep our law enforcement and public safety community in your prayers. 🔵🔴

Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV)
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

It is such a wonderful thing when you realize it’s never too late for GOD to work in your life and when you get that restored sense of purpose.
