Welcome to Worship at St. Peter! This weekend, we will have a special time of prayer and blessing for our graduating seniors, and we will present them with a quilt from our Quilting group on behalf of our congregation. Thank you to the St. Peter Church Choir for sharing special music. And thank you to Mike McCoy for singing the wonderful song “Borning Cry”.
In our Gospel reading for this weekend, it is a time of transition. Jesus is about to be arrested, and Jesus takes time to pray for his disciples and for those who would come to believe in him through their witness. The disciples’ relationship with Jesus is about to shift, and Jesus’ prayerful words offer comfort and strength. There is a strong grounding in the midst of things that are about to change; that grounding is in the relationship that they have with the Father (and Jesus Christ whom he sent). Jesus offers continued relationship, prayer, reveals his heart of love for them and for the world, desires to share his joy with them, and then sends them out with the promise of the Holy Spirit. As we gather for worship today, we, too, can hear these prayerful words as strength for the transitions we face in our lives.

Jesus does not abandon his followers. Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus comes to abide with his disciples of every generation. As Pentecost draws near, we are reminded that the risen Christ dwells in us as the Spirit of truth. We receive this Spirit in baptism and pray that in our gathering around the world the Lord's table the spirit will transform us to be the body of the risen Christ in the world.

Welcome to “Serve God with Joy” Weekend at St. Peter. During worship services, we will have a Commissioning of our newly trained Care Companions, and we will be lifting up various opportunities to engage more deeply at St. Peter. Worship will also include the Sacrament of Baptism for two of our middle school confirmation youth, Clayton Scott and Jackson Scott; and the choir will share special music.

In our Gospel reading from John 14, we hear Jesus’ promise that he is preparing a place for us in relationship with him and the Father. How amazing to be invited into this relationship and conversation of love for the world that goes all the way back to the beginning. Each of us are invited to participate in this loving relationship. We are invited to eternal life: abundant life on the way with Jesus now. And we are sent as Jesus was sent to witness to God’s love in and for the world.
