The same year Larry Trotter graduated from Northeast High School, he also became a Christian through the ministry of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. At Duke University, he studied Math and Economics in preparation for a career in business. However, God redirected his path by calling him into the ministry during his senior year. At Westminster Theological Seminary, Larry met, fell in love with, an
d married Sandy, who had just returned from three years teaching at Christ College in Taiwan. After three years as an associate pastor in Maryland with the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), Larry and Sandy left with their infant daughter for Mexico City, where they helped start a new church. After four years and with two young daughters, they moved to Guadalajara, where they spent the next twenty years, starting new churches, a school, a community development center, and a ministry training institute. Always fascinated with public speaking, Larry earned a PhD in Communication along the way with a focus on preaching. With both of their daughters back in the States and the work in Mexico prospering on its own, Larry and Sandy began to search for a new ministry in which they could put to good use their training and international experience. This search kept them in the work of new church development and led them back to Larry's hometown, where they are working to start Florida Coast Church, part of the PCA and a mission of CityChurch Fort Lauderdale. As a Christian church, the PCA holds the Bible to be the infallible word of God and Jesus Christ to be the Savior of sinners who trust and follow him. The goal for Florida Coast Church is to unite the diverse ages, cultures, and languages of South Florida in a community of faith, learning, and love.
