A Scriptural Prayer in Honor of America's 250th

Oh King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, (Rev 19:16). We thank you for our nation along with all its benefits and blessings for every good gift and every perfect gift we enjoy is from above (James 1:17).

You command supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way (1 Tim 2:1-2). Let us then be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God (Rom 13:1).

You also tell us that righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. (Prov 14:34). For when the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan. (Prov 29:2) Therefore, we pray, let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream (Amos 5:24). You have told us what you require: to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with you (Micah 6:8).

Lord let us render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let us not devise evil against another in our heart (Zech 7:9-10). For your whole law is fulfilled in one word: you shall love your neighbor as yourself (Gal 5:14).

You promise the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever (Isa 32:17). Let us trust in you for we are not saved by a great army; and not delivered by our great strength. Our war horses are a false hope for salvation, and by its great might they cannot rescue. (Psalm 33:16–17). For unless you Lord build the house, we who build it labor in vain. Unless you Lord watch over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain (Psalm 127:1). Bring well-being to our nation, for its welfare is our welfare. (Jer 19:7)

We long for the day when your tree of life will bring healing to the nations (Rev 22:2). Until that day we pray your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. (Matt 6:10). For you God reign over the nations; you God sit on your holy throne (Psalm 47:8). You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you (Rev 15:7). Amen. Come, Lord Jesus (Rev 22:20).
